Adam Blatner, M.D.

Adam Blatner, M.D., "floated to the finish" (in his own words) in October. A graduate of UC Berkeley, UCSF School of Medicine, and psychiatric residency at Stanford Univ. Double Board Certified in Adult and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry, and a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Assn., he was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at University of Louisville School of Medicine and Texas A&M University Medical School. Dr. Blatner authored several books, including the primary textbook for students of Psychodrama.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Allee; ex-wife, Barbara; son David and wife Debbie, their sons Gabriel and Daniel; daughter Alisa and husband Paul, their daughters Camille and Zoe; brother Irwin, two beloved nieces, and numerous cousins. He often insisted that his greatest accomplishment was: "I got to help." In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your local Library. For more details, see www.blatner.com/adam/obit. At the one-year commemoration of the completion of Adam's float to the finish, I'm even more aware of how profound our loss has been. This is the first opportunity I've had to read his extremely well-written, moving obituary. What an extraordinary human being. Again, I express my gratitude for having met him! Through Allee, I feel Adam's magic still working, his desire to help just a strong as ever. Love you Adam.

My condolence to his family and friends. I met him many years ago at a psychodrama conference. I was so impressed with his expression and understanding of life and helping others. He was very unconventional. To me he was the epitome of spontaneous living. He exuded a wealth of knowledge and autonomous life energy. I conversed with him in several of his blog posts. He made a positive impression on my life. There will never be another like him. I was lucky to have met him when I did. Our limited exchanges in blog messages was meaningful valued. He will not be forgotten.

My life was graced by the presence of Adam and his beloved wife Allee for only a few short years. But oh, what wondrous years they were. I often expressed my sadness to them that we hadn't met long before we did. But that wasn't to be. I treasure my memories of Adam: observing the back of his fluffy white head in the first or second row on the right side at UU services and feeling comforted by his presence; sitting next to him at The Palm, watching "Yellow Submarine"; listening to him singing and being amazed at his recall of lyrics; and receiving loving hugs and smiles from him. Suffice it to say, there will never be another Adam. Much love to Allee and the children. ~~~ Maureen
