He started his retail career at the Men's Clothing Department at the Roos Atkins, Southgate Store in 1962. After working at various locations throughout the bay area, he was promoted to Manager of the flagship store located at 4th and Market in San Francisco where he met his wife Tracy in 1978. In 1989 he closed shop and joined the Nordstrom stores, first at Stonestown Shopping Center, then Market Street location and ended his retail career at the Stanford Nordstrom's Men's clothing department in the late 90s. He went on to work as a purchasing agent at his son's company, Advanced Voice & Data located in Concord. Alan worked there until his esophageal cancer made it to difficult to continue.
He was charming, handsome and loved the clothing industry. Alan loved jazz, good books, his dogs Wally & Lilly, fine art, history, and the Giants baseball team. He was fortunate to be close to all his children, grandchildren, and great grand children up until his passing. He shared his passions with everyone, touched many lives, and will sorely missed.

I have had the privilege to have known Al as a close friend of our family since 1969. Al was the best example of a true gentleman and loved people. Al saw the best in everyone and never hesitated to offer help. He will be deeply missed.

It was always a great pleasure to see Al when he would come in to our shop. He loved talking to us and us him. The stories he told, what memories. We will always remember.

Alan lived a long and exciting life. I had the pleasure of watching the romance between Alan and Tracy bloom and enjoyed their company over the years. He will be missed but will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he touched.
