Alberto Larrazabal Obituary

Alberto de Larrazabal July 17, 1920 - June 1, 2011 Alberto passed away peacefully on June 1st at his home in San Francisco surrounded by his family. He was born in Manila Philippines, studied at De La Salle University, and went on to receive his BS in Economics at the University of Santo Tomas. He was an outstanding athlete and was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame at De La Salle for his achievements in soccer. He served in the United States Army Transport Service in WWII. Alberto immigrated to the United States in 1963 with his family to fulfill his dream of living in America. He was truly dedicated to his professional career in the travel business for 40 years. Alberto is survived by, Maruja, his wife of 60 years and his daughters; Maria Ines Cook and Cecilia McDonagh, his son-in-laws; John Cook and Dan McDonagh, his grandchildren; Jennifer and Elizabeth Cook, and Christopher, Bella, and Joseph McDonagh, as well as his brother, Fernando de Larrazabal and sister, Josefina Larrauri. He is preceded in death by his sister, Carmen Gaspar, and his brother Luis de Larrazabal. Known to his family and friends as Tatu, Tito Alberto, or Gorda he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His charisma, affection, and humor always made people feel welcome, loved, and special. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Veteran's Hospital in San Francisco and Hospice by the Bay for their care and compassion throughout. Friends may visit Tuesday June 7th from 3-9pm and are invited to attend the Rosary at 7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday June 8th at 1pm at St. Gabriel Church, 2559 40th Ave, San Francisco. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Donations in Memory of Alberto can be made to: Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation at www.alzinfo.org

My condolences to the family of Gorda. I new him during our La Salle days and when we were teammates in the old Turba Salvaje football team. we were the first team to win the Lobregat trophy I still have the team's picture with me.
