Alexander Douglas Obituary

Alexander Douglas
1943 - 2020
Alexander Patrick Douglas passed away peacefully on November 23, 2020 at the age of 77.

Pat (as family called him) was born in San Francisco on September 3, 1943, the second child of Alexander Douglas and Antoinette Passantino. Pat grew up in the City and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1961. A few years later, he married Patricia Nolan (also of San Francisco) and together they raised four children. A savvy entrepreneur, Pat left a successful career in sales in 1979 and started a small business (NALL & Company) with his wife in the South of Market area of the City. More than forty years later, the business continues to thrive, now owned and managed by the next generation of the Douglas family.

When he wasn't working, Pat loved eating out at San Francisco's many restaurants, where he was often on a first-name basis with staff members and patrons alike. Pat also loved to travel, especially to warm climates. In search of "the perfect beach," he and his family visited islands all over the world, including Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, Fiji, and Hawaii.

Pat is survived by Patricia Douglas, his beloved wife of 56 years; his four children and their spouses: Nancy Douglas, Alexander Douglas (Joan), Leslie O'Brien (Tony), and Louis Douglas (Diana); his grandchildren Jasmine Rivero, Alec and Vincent Douglas, Dylan and Dakota O'Brien, and Isabella Douglas; his younger sister Mary Douglas; and by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws.

Herb Caen, the San Francisco Chronicle's legendary columnist, famously remarked that "One day if I go to heaven, I'll look around and say, 'It ain't bad, but ain't San Francisco.'" As Pat adjusts to his new surroundings, he may indeed be thinking this very thing. But we also know that he left a little bit of his heart here in the City that he loved, and with each one of us.

The Douglas family looks forward to hosting a celebration of Pat's life once COVID restrictions lift. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
