Alexander Urban Obituary

Zander (Alexander William) Urban Born on August 27, 1988 to Laura Urban Perry & Will Urban, devoted brother to Mariana. Survived by his grandparents William Andrews Urban, Ed & Marion Perry; Scott, Bruce & Baird Perry, John, David & Joanne Moore, & Elizabeth Urban. In May, he graduated with honors in International Studies with minors in Music and History, Middle East Studies from University of San Francisco. He was a Leo T. McCarthy Fellow and worked for the California Governor's Office of Economic Development. His thesis "Citizenship in Crisis" was published by the USF 2010 Politics & International Studies Honors Symposium. He was to be employed in Public Relations, however, he was struck by a car and died on May 26th. He grew up in Seattle, WA where he knit together diverse communities and thrived in soccer, football, and track. Loved hiking, water and teaching sailing. Helped build the Cascade Mountains to Sound Trail. His life-long pursuit of music - piano, bass, gospel choir and song writing - lead to his band "the 31" and gigs in San Francisco. Blessed by fine teachers, Zander's friends and family know him as a gregarious companion with an inclusive outlook. He accepts everyone with no reservations and challenges them to be better. Zander's smile lights up any room. He is the best of the best, loving spirit, kind heart, and a boundless enthusiasm for life. When we sing, dance and extend ourselves in friendship, we honor his life. The University of San Francisco has established the Alexander (Zander) Urban Endowed Fund to support student participation in Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good internships. To make a gift in Zander's honor, please mail it directly to the University of San Francisco, File 30761, PO Box 60000, San Francisco, CA 94160-0001. For information or assistance, contact Gerti Arnold at USF 415- 422-4027. The investigation of his death is still ongoing.
