Alva Bellomo Obituary

Alva Mary Bellomo
10/29/1924 - 08/08/2025
Alva Mary Bellomo, known affectionately as "Auntie Alva," passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 08, 2025.
Born October 29,1924 in San Francisco, her hundredth birthday came as a pleasant surprise to her. Auntie Alva was the oldest of three daughters of the late Natale and Pierina (Mangini) Bellomo. She was a devoted sister to the late Dolores (Bellomo) Delucchi, and she always remembered her sister, Lorraine, who sadly passed away at the age of 6 months.
Auntie Alva was nothing short of an extraordinary person. She had the best sense of humor and a lot of gumption. Above all else, she was a loving person, and if you were fortunate enough to be at the receiving end of it, she made sure you knew it. Auntie Alva's door was always open. If you needed help, she was there, and every "I love you" was said with conviction.
Auntie Alva graduated from Girl's High in San Francisco, a proud member of the Class of 1942. After graduating from Heald's Business College, she worked for 22 years as a secretary with Bay View Federal Savings in San Francisco.
In retirement, Auntie Alva would volunteer her time helping her sister and her brother-in-law, the late Julio C. Delucchi at their flower shop, J. Fregosi &Son, in San Francisco.
Going to dances when she was young and traveling to Italy with her cousin were among some of Auntie Alva's treasured memories. Among Auntie Alva's other treasured memories were spending time and going on outings with her sister Dolores, family and friends.
Auntie Alva was survived by many nieces and nephews. She was an exceptionally dedicated aunt whose love, care and unfailing support brought so much good into the lives of her nieces and nephews.
Our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the administrator and staff of the Burlingame Villa who took such great care of Alva where she resided for the last eight months. A grateful thank you to Melanie Kibbler and Isabella Caicedo, Mission Hospice volunteers, who spent time with her every week and the wonderful and kind staff of Mission Hospice & Home Care. A special thank you to Lydia Claesson RN and social worker Sara Wolfowitz for all they did to care for Alva's well-being. Thank you to the caregivers Kate and Mia, who took care of Alva when she lived at home.
Alva is fondly remembered by many and will be missed by all.
All are welcome to gather for a celebration of life on Wednesday, August 20,2025 at 10:15 A.M. to be held at the main chapel of the Italian Cemetery, 540 F street in Colma.

To the Bellomo,

I did not know Miss Alva Bellomo, but she sounded like a gem of a lady. These senior Italian Americans, mainly from the Mission and North Beach, embodied the perseverance and strength of the old country ways. They always did what was needed, and took care of their families.

My sincere condolences are with you. Riposa in pace.

I had the honor of knowing Alva (and her mother) first as a landlord, then as a lifelong friend. I loved her stories about Italy and frankly any conversation we had was a delight. I have many good memories and will always hold her dear in my heart. My deepest condolences to all her family.
