Amelia Bernard Obituary

BERNARD, Amelia Borgen - In the comfort and privacy of her own home with family and friends, Amelia peacefully joined her husband, Paul Emile Bernard on Oct. 22, 2005 in San Francisco, CA. Amelia, or affectionately known as "Grammy" was born in Nicinomo, Nicaragua, the daughter of Max Borgen and Adela Vega on September 30, 1912. She was raised in Managua, Nicaragua. She first visited San Francisco, CA in 1945. It was in San Francisco that she met the love of her life, Paul Bernard, her future husband. In a few short years, they were married on May 28, 1949. Amelia and Paul spent their 52 years of marriage in San Francisco. Amelia experienced a lot of joy with her growing family, especially her grandchildren. She was an active proponent and supporter of wildlife and land conservation programs. She is survived by her son Hubert Paul and daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Bernard of Petaluma, CA; her daughter Adele M. and her son-in-law William R. Lichtenberger, San Francisco, CA; granddaughters, Amelie and Ashlie Bernard, Cristina Lichtenberger, Los Angeles, CA, and Vanessa Pritchard and her husband Scott, Buffalo, NY; and devoted niece, Lucrecia Mihaloupolus and her husband Chris of San Francisco, CA. Friends may call on Friday after 2:00pm and are invited to the Vigil Service at 6:00pm and the Funeral Service on Saturday at 12:30pm at DUGGAN'S FUNERAL SERVICE, 3434 - 17th Street near Valencia, thence to Notre Dame des Victoires where the Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm. Committal, Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA. A Celebration of life will follow at the Sutro Restaurant at the Cliff House at 4:00pm. The family would like to give a special thanks to Amelia's devoted companions Angelica, Alejandra, Dolores and Maria, without whose help, Amelia would not have been able to remain in her home.
