Ann Smith Obituary

Ann Claire Smith

MA in Psychology, PhD in Clinical Psychology, MA from CDSP February 09, 1938 - May 20, 2017 Ann passed away peacefully May 20, 2017. She was 79 years of age. She was kindly taken care of by the wonderful people at Chaparral House in Berkeley and Pathways Hospice. Ann was born in Hopkinsville, Ky. to Pauline Lacy. She graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. in 1951. She was President of Chi Omega sorority. Following graduation she and a friend traveled Europe. On her return she began a career of 15 years as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines. Ann lived and practiced in Berkeley and was so very respected as a therapist. Ann loved to ride and jump horses. She ran five marathons in her 40's, only quitting running because it was damaging her back. She ministered to the poor, actually going in their midst to do so. Ann loved poetry. Writing, reading it and listening to it. Ann loved the opera and symphonies. The light of her life was going to listen to music at both venues. She had a big love of animals and always had a pet. She moved to the Chaparral House in July of 2015 where she was lovingly taken care of by staff and Hospice. During her life Ann had many friends. She was always a friend of the underdog. She is survived by her son Paul of Stockton, her good friend of 50+ years Jan Jones, good friend of many years Julie Harris, Dr Lynnette Beall and the many friends and acquaintances she touched during her life. Her ashes are in Hopkinsville, Ky, and Grace Cathedral. A celebration of her life will be at Grace Cathedral September 28 at 12:10 pm in the Chapel of Grace.
