Dr. Antonio Cucalon Jr.
September 09, 1924- January 11, 2021

On January 11, 2021, we lost our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather & friend, Tony. Born in Panama City, Panama, he first came to the U.S. to attend Dental School at Loyola of New Orleans, earning his DDS Degree in 1948.

After returning to Panama, he established a very successful dental practice and became very involved in organized dentistry, including becoming the President of the Panamanian Dental Society. Yet, he still had time to meet the love of his life, Rosario Lara. Shortly after they wed, they left their immediate families behind, and moved to the U.S., as he had been accepted to the University of Southern California's School of Orthodontia. In 1955 he received his Master's Degree in Orthodontics & moved to Vallejo, Ca. where he started one of the first Orthodontic Practices in the area.

Dad loved his time in Vallejo & had strong ties to the community as a business owner, patron, volunteer & Lions Club Member and President.

In 1967 he moved his family of 6 to San Francisco where he continued practicing Orthodontics until he retired in 1989. He also established numerous strong ties to the community of San Francisco.
He loved his Profession and demonstrated this by volunteering his time to the San Francisco Dental Society and the California Association of Orthodontics.

Tony was a great person who worked hard, played hard and lived life to the fullest! He was bright, wise, ambitious & yet a truly humble, generous, and kind man who adored his family. He had a passion for dancing and making people laugh and would light up a room with his smile and sense of humor.

Dad enjoyed being active & spending time at the Olympic Club of which he was a member for over 50 years. His favorite hobbies were handball, swimming, and going for a steam which he did until he was 90 years old! He found tremendous pleasure in Reading, Traveling, History, Teaching, Music, Films, especially the oldies and Real Estate.

Tony passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Rosario, who shared 68 wonderful years; his children, Rosie & her husband Chuck, Debbie, Tony & his wife Mardi & Vince; his grandchildren A.J., Connor, Ryan, Kristin and Alexandra; and great grandchildren Tyler, Alyssa, Addison, Alexis & Miles.

A private service was held for the immediate family, January 15, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, he would appreciate donations to the American Cleft Palette-Craniofacial Association (ACPA). www.acpa-cpf.org

Wish to extend condolences to Dr Cucalon’ family- he was a friend of my Dad Mr DalPorto from his Vallejo days - straightened my teeth as a youngster! A very nice man.

Dr. Cucalon, Tony, was a big smile of a human being and he brought smiles to all who knew him. When he met me (Janet) he said I had a 'big' smile and said he would make it better. That he did. We had lots of fun with him at our parties, too.

Our condolences to Rosario, Tony and Mardi, and all the Cucalon family.

My condolences to the Cucalon family.
Dr. Cucalon was a very close friend to my parents and a fellow "Olympian".
His gregarious and spirited character will always be remembered.

We had a most wonderful group of Latin friends for many years including our monthly dinners shared at each of our homes. We joyfully anticipated these get togethers. Antonio was always the spark of joy for all of us. It is sad to think that these are just memories now. Most in our group are gone but the spirit will be alive forever. With all my sincere love, Alicia Pinto

A lovely tribute and wonderful picture. My sincere condolences to the entire Cucalon family. I have lovely memories of Dr. Cucalon and time spent with the entre Cucalon family. I can picture him dancing and the fun shared with my parents and thanks to him, I have the best teeth around. (I won't however mention the Christmas shopping days although I think my Dad and him had some great times!) I am thinking of you and sending my love to all of you.

What a great guy whom I had the pleasure of meeting over several years while his son and I served on orthodontic boards together. I am very sorry for your loss, but 96 is a pretty good run in anybody’s book. Dr Tom Bales Novato, CA.

So sorry to learn about Dr. Cucalon's passing. I have only the fondest memories of his bigger than life personality - lots of laughs but also sage advice when necessary.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.
