Atteo Lazzaretti Obituary

Atteo Lazzaretti
September 10, 1917 - June 12, 2023
A life-long resident of North Beach, San Francisco, aka Lazz, Al, Lefty or sometimes Pal, (his favorite term...when he could not remember your name!) Only son of Primo Lazzaretti and Filomena Moroni... lived throughout the neighborhood...moving "whenever the $8 rent was due".
Attended Garfield Elementary, Francisco Junior High and Galileo Class of 1935. Among other escapades, he and his cronies delayed the building of Coit Tower, by nightly dismantling the wood frame, to be used for heat at home.
Played sandlot baseball throughout the Bay Area, most notably for Paul's Corner (now Tony's Pizza) and the New Pisa. Played first base a couple of years for the St. Louis Cardinal Organization in Albuquerque, New Mexico before serving in the US Coast Guard and protecting the City during World War II.
His wife, Eleanor Ferrari, passed in 2005. Atteo is survived by his three sons, Jon (Cynthia), Bill (Kathy), and Michael (Cindy). Proud Nonno to six grandchildren..Alexis, Nathaniel, Marika, Joe, Jillian, and Matthew and Bis-Nonno to six great grandchildren.
For 45 years thrived as the top salesman at The Juillard Alpha Liquor Co, his customers being some of the great SF restaurants...Ernie's, Doro's, Orsi's, Paoli's, Original Joe's and many more.
Took up golf as an alternative to "over-visiting" the horse track and was a regular at Harding Park twice a week. For 56 years, was a member of The Presidio Golf Club where he made lifelong friends and won various club tournaments, his last golf victory coming on his 101st birthday with an all-Lazzaretti team. Has three holes-in-one on Presidio #15, one each from the Blue, White and Red tees. But the most cherished memories at the Club were his daily, then weekly, lunches at the Club Round Table, where he loved listening, telling stories and giving out golf swing advice.
On the home front, enjoyed a vodka rocks/lemon twist each night with his family before dinner, and sitting in the sun on the stoop at Lombard Street.
Atteo Lazzaretti, an inspiration to many; always determined, positive and up-beat.....105 years, 9 months.
A celebration of life will be scheduled for July. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Salesian Boys and Girls Club, 680 Filbert Street, SF 94133

From one of his "rockheads", he was a great pal. It was truly a pleasure to share some rounds, jokes and a birthday.

What I noticed about "Al" was every time I saw him I got a smile on my face. Always engaging and a real pleasure to be around. Thanks for sticking around as long as you did, Pal. You're missed. KG
