Barbara Blakely Obituary

Barbara Blakely
November 27, 1955 - April 13, 2023
Barbara Blakely passed peacefully from this world on April 13, 2023, at home in the company of her family. A light is gone from many lives.
Barbara was born on November 27, 1955, in Washington, D.C, to Erskine Blakely and Irene Powell, and was raised in Georgetown with her three sisters and two brothers. In November 1973, at age 17, she met Gary Maestas, the love of her life. They married on April 8, 1979, added two wonderful boys to their family, and shared a loving union for life.
During her career as a bookkeeper, Barbara was depended upon for her skillful organization, scrupulous attention to detail, and unshakeable honesty. Her foresight and reliability were instrumental in organizing the family's annual stays in Stinson Beach, camping trips to Big Basin, weekends in Santa Cruz and Bodega Bay, and West Hollywood getaways, as well as frequent visits with extended family.
A gracious person in every sense, Barbara made guests feel at home. She and Gary gave beautiful dinner parties. She was known for her gentle spirit and kind voice of reason, her wry smile and easy laugh, and occasionally, her tart retorts. Her family and friends hold treasured life memories of her company.
Barbara leaves behind her loving husband, Gary, and their two sons, Julian and August Maestas; her sisters Susie and Patricia, many nieces and nephews; and many loving family members throughout the Bay Area.
The family offers their heartfelt thanks to Nora Galarce, a caring friend and a devoted caregiver. Donations in memory of Barbara may be made to the Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026.

Dearest Gary, Julian and August, Barbara was very special. She will always and forever be close in our hearts. An amazing aunt to Danielle and Lauren who have many treasured memories of camping and spending great times with their Auntie Barb and Uncle Gary. Having Barb in our lives for over 50 years, we grew up together and spent many hours raising kids, cooking, visiting and laughing together. She was a true creative and clever spirit and she loved sewing and crafting. She was a true gem and her memory will shine within us forever. Lots of love and caring to you. Karen and David
