Barbara Murray Obituary

Barbara Murray Barbara Ethel (Galli) Murray passed away at home on August 8, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jim. She will be forever missed by her cherished children Colleen (Larry) Strain , Michael (Katie) Murray, Ellen (Brad) Tham, Eileen (John) Grealish, Elaine (Brad) Paulsey, Diane (and the late Dan) Linehan. She was the adored Noni of Jennifer (Kyle) Woolsey, Paul and Eric Strain, Michael, Dominic, Patrick and Jimmy Murray, Matthew, Christopher and Lauren Tham, Megan and Brian Grealish, Siobhan, Patrick and Molly Linehan, AJ and Emily Paulsey. Bobbie was the dearly beloved daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine Galli, and daughter-in-law of the late John Elmer and Catherine Murray. She was the dear niece of the late Mary (Francis) Brown and the late Ethel (Gerry) Vogler. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and relatives whom she loved dearly. Bobbie grew up in the Excelsior District of San Francisco and was a proud graduate of Balboa High School. She filled her time with three great loves: her family, Our Lady of Mercy Parish, and the Windsor Drive Gang. After moving to Windsor Drive in 1952, Barbara and Jim were founding members of Our Lady of Mercy School and Parish. Along with other transplanted San Franciscans, they played an integral part in the building of a vibrant parish community. She was an active member of the Westlake Catholic Women's Club, a participant in the annual Parish Festival, a Teen Club Moderator, and an original member of the "Hot Dog Ladies". The families of Windsor Drive became Bobbie's lifelong friends and the same can be said for her children. Most of all, Barbara loved her husband Jim and adored her children and grandchildren. She instilled in them an appreciation of family, a genuine spirit of service, care and generosity. Always prayerful for her family and friends, she lived a life devoted to the Catholic faith. Family and friends are invited to visit after 6:00 pm Thursday, August 11th, and to attend the Rosary Service at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Mercy Church, One Elmwood Drive, Daly City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 12th at 10:30 am, also at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Our Lady of Mercy Building Fund, or the Daniel J. Linehan Scholarship fund, c/o St. Ignatius College Prep. 2001 37th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94116, would be greatly appreciated.

Our whole family will miss Aunt Bobbie's zest for life, ever-positive attitude and amazing smile. A favorite memory of mine from childhood is going over to Aunt Bobbie and Uncle Jim's house at Christmas time to hang out with our cousins and enjoy Aunt Bobbie's delicious cooking.

Over the years, Aunt Bobbie always took the time to talk and was genuinely interested in our lives. We feel blessed that Aunt Bobbie leaves a wonderful family legacy and that her spirit will live on in Uncle Jim as well as Bobbie's children and grandchildren.

We will all miss Bobbie and her smile and laughter. From the time I was twelve until last Friday, August 5th, the last time we talked on the phone, she always called me Joey....the only person in my life to do that. Very special. She will be missed by all of us.

Please accept our deepest, sincere condolences on the loss of "Bobbie". She was a fine, generous, funny and proud woman, dedicated to her family, church, neighborhood and God. Her laughter was contagious and infectious. She and Jim were committed to each other and to their children. They and my parents were both settlers of OLM and my late folks were honored to call the Murray's friends. May she rest in peace and may her husband and children know how truly special she was.

Some of my best Our Lady of Mercy memories include walking to the Murray house in the morning to pick up Colleen for school. Mrs. Murray was absolutely wonderful to all of us kids. Thank you for sharing her.

Your Mother was truly a terrific Mom with a personality that would light up a room.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Lots of love Patrice (Patti) Mitchell
