Brigida Bergkamp Obituary

Brigida "Jette" Jose Bergkamp, 68, found eternal peace on Sunday, December 5, 2021 with family faithfully at her side. She will forever be in the hearts and happiest memories of her family and friends who were gifted with a lasting legacy of her kindness, generosity, dedication, and compassion.
Born in the Philippines, Brigida led a remarkable life and enjoyed traveling. She has lived in Colombo, Hong Kong, Mumbai, New York, Seoul, Singapore,Taipei, and Tokyo. Her home in San Francisco was adorned with memorable pieces from her travels and cherished photos of people with whom she built lasting memories. She made lifelong friendships and touched the lives of many.
Brigida's bright smile and outlook on life will always be remembered. As will the gatherings she enjoyed throwing for her loved ones. Her home and the constant get-togethers she enjoyed hosting were a constant in many people's lives. She was a gracious host, unparalleled party planner, and skilled decorator. Everyone who came through her wide-open doors felt instantly welcomed. She had a special eye for finding beauty in everything around her and learned her love of plants from her mother, Teresita. Last year, she followed her heart and gave herself a gift of a miniature goldendoodle, Mochi, who kept her company until her final days.
A veteran public relations professional, Brigida excelled in the field of technology communications. She also served as the long-time editor for her father, Filipino novelist, F. Sionil Jose. She had a truly special gift for writing and telling stories that gave people a voice.
Brigida leaves behind her grieving parents, Francisco Sionil and Teresita Jose; brothers Antonio Jose, Eddie (Lulu) Jose, Eugene (Dawn) Jose, Alex (Lee, deceased) Jose, and Nikko (Karri) Jose; and sister Evelina (Steve) Cichy. She was a loving aunt to Coco Jose, Philip (Jackie) Cichy, Frederick (Che) Cichy, Ben (Kathleen) Jose, Katrina (Victor) Santa Ana-Jose, Nick Jose, Camille (Seth) Reinhardt, Tess and Isabel Jose, and Desi and Dante Jose.

Brigida was one of my dearest colleagues in work, and a friend in life whom I will always cherish. Dear Brigida, I learned from you how to raise the bar with compassion and humor. As a woman who was a master of words, I'm not sure how to do this. How can I try and describe someone so special in plain old words? You are and will forever be beautiful, smart, challenging, empathetic and encouraging. You were a great listener with time for everyone. We looked forward to working together in the future, and fighting the good fight together. Brigida, I promise to continue that fight for both or us. Farewell my friend, until we meet again, someday, somewhere. To Brigida's family, I hope you feel surrounded by love.

My deepest sympathies to her loved ones. I met her at the Akademyang Filipino. While our friendship started on a professional level we soon shared a love of BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) and both got into the BTS Army at the same time. In loving memory of such a wonderful person. Working with Brigida for many years was a true blessing. She was one of the most kind and selfless people that I have ever met.
