Bruce W. Hyman, Esq. passed away peacefully on December 17, 2018 at the age of 84. Bruce was born January 6, 1934 in San Francisco and never left; practicing real estate law with a specialty in real estate finance for over sixty years. He attended Lowell High School and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in accounting; followed by law school at UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall. He began his professional career as an attorney and CPA at Landels, Ripley & Diamond, where he subsequently became the firm's managing partner. Bruce continued to practice real estate law at the firms of Graham & James, Paul Hastings and Allen Matkins. Bruce has been of counsel at Allen Matkins since 2004. Bruce took great pleasure in mentoring and spending time with the law firm's associates and paralegals.

Bruce was general counsel for the California Mortgage Bankers Association for twenty-five years and its general counsel emeritus. He was also a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, the American College of Mortgage Attorneys and the Mortgage Bankers Association. Bruce was a frequent and nationally recognized speaker at legal conferences.

Bruce's passion was the San Francisco Opera, which began as a 14 year old usher in 1948. He was on the Board of Directors for 27 years, serving on executive committees and being a driving force on numerous special projects. He was also instrumental in establishing the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve in Big Sur, which is now managed by UC Santa Cruz.

Bruce was an avid golfer and a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco and Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel. Before golf, he was a devoted tennis player and a member of the UC Berkeley tennis team. He never lost interest in the game of tennis.

Bruce married Marcia "Toni" Landels (d. 2001) in 1963. Bruce and Toni proudly raised a son, James "Jim" Hyman, and a daughter, Katherine Hyman (d. 2012). He is survived by his son Jim, daughter-in-law Laurie Hyman, three grandchildren Sophie, Ella and Charlie Hyman, and significant other, Simone Marie Quarre'

Andrew Morgan, Director of Development) or the UCSC Foundation (Ref: Big Creek Reserve in Memory of Bruce Hyman, Attn: Development – PBSci Dean's Office.) No service is scheduled. There will be a private gathering of family and friends in January.

I'm so sad to hear this. I've known the Hymans for so many years and used to babysit Katherine and Jimmy. Bruce and Toni were a big part of my mom's life (Meryl McGowan).
He was so friendly, smart, funny, engaging and very loving of his family. My heart goes out to them.

I knew Bruce as a Classmate and SF Attorney. Also, my late brother Clay was on the Lowell Tennis Team and U.C. Berkeley Tennis Team with Bruce. Bruce was a nice friendly guy.

Condolences to the Hyman family from cousins of the Rhine family. Bruce's father was the brother of our grandmother and we have great memories of the Bruce, his mother and father, joining our family for the holidays.

Bruce was a lovely fellow, very supportive, knowledgeable, a strong advocate for his clients, but at the same time friendly and inclusive of staff. We spoke often of our mutual interest in Lowell and got a kick out of sharing our experiences at reunions. In short, a gentleman and a committed professional. At rest and at peace, Bruce.
