Charlie and I met at Southdown, Toronto, in 2002. We went through the program together, and he asked me to be his prayer partner when he left. I admired his courage, his honesty, his kindness and concern for others. I've kept in touch with him these past 4 years, and am so sorry to hear of his death. May he now enjoy peace and fullness of life!

I met Msgr.Charles Durkin in 2002- it was an awesome sight seeing this big tall man pouring coffee so humbly. I was afraid of him at first but soon sensed the warm, humorous heart under a sometimes gruff exterior! I can understand very well how those close to him will miss him- may his warm smile light up the heavenly realmsand may he be there to greet you as you too enter life eternal!

Uncle Charlie will long be remembered in the Argabright family, for he performed the marriage ceremony for our son, Steven Argabright & his wonderful niece, Teri Durkin. He was gracious enough to allow Duke (Steve's dad) to read the scripture in the ceremony.
We enjoyed getting to know him over the ensuing years, and know that he had a great heart for all in the Durkin family. He was a blessing to many! He will be missed by many!
May God truly bless Uncle Charlie's family and draw them unto Himself.

Msgr Durkin, was truly an amazing individual, friend, and pastor. He will be greatly missed. All Souls was a wonderful parish with him at the helm. He touched our lives in ways he will never know. When Josh and I made our first communion, he prepared an incredible mass just for us. We carry those memories deep in our hearts. Josh still has the silver dollars Msgr gave him because Msgr lost a 49'er bet to him. Larry, Josh and I will never forget Msgr and he will live in our hearts forever. He will always be within reach.

Uncle Charlie, thank you for all the laughs and encouragement I saw you lend to the Durkin family over the years. I will always remember you as an Uncle once removed and value the confirmation ceremony we shared when Teri and I changed places so you could be the one to administer this sacrament to your beloved niece! Your sense of humor, dedication, and heartfelt ways will be missed!

Charlie, when I first met you in 1949 at St. Josephs you were the biggest guy I was to meet and I learned you were to be my Table Leader for all my meals, the only thing I felt was fear. Fear was not even a word in my vocabulary from that day on, ,you were one of best role models. I did not receive the "Call" but you did, I went on to serve a different vocation and you married Maureen and I in August 1955. Almost 51 years later, I am sure you are proud, our family now stands at 28 total, six married childern & 14 grandchildern, You did a good job, thanks. You are now in the Hands of Our Lord and He will treat you well. In Christ's Peace, Tom & Maureen Poeschl.

My heart was broken when I heard of your passing. Although it gives me great happiness knowing that you and my parents are reunited again. I can see you and my dad on the golf course playing your weekly golf games, and when you guys were done you would come back to the house for a good home cooked meal by my mom. Monsignor has been part of our family for so many years, it started when he came to Epipany, he became my parents best friend. We were honored to have him marry the 5 of us and baptize all the grandkids. You will always be in my heart, Rest in peace.

Charlie, you left us too soon. We only had the privilege of having you as part of our family during the four short years since you conducted the ceremony marrying our beloved daughter, Kirsten, to your wonderful nephew, Brian. You and I were especially honored to have had their son, nicknamed "Jack", formally named after us. . .John Charles Durkin. As I promised you during our last visit in the hospital two weeks ago, I will watch after Jack as he grows into a man and always remind him of the love you showered on him while you were with us. We miss you already .

Brian, Kirsten, Lori, Mike, Victoria, Terry & Steve and all the nieces & nephews it is a very sad loss for all of you and us. Uncle Charlie (it was an honor to call him that) will always be remembered fondly in our hearts as a great man, uncle, best friend & priest. How lucky were we to have such a blessed man in our lives. Lori and I, as well as my family were lucky to have him part of our lives. Sweden, The Pope visit, our wedding and my moms passing, he was always there with a big smile and "its okay Pal everything will be all right". We have all lost a good friend but gained a great Guardian Angel. Unc hit him straight up there! We will miss you. Oh buy the way it was Brian and I who took all the ice in Falun! We love you Lori & Joe.

Charlie was ordained the week before we got married. My sister, Catherine and I got married at a double wedding on June 18, 1955 with Fr. Durkin doing his first wedding.
No one could have had a better brother-in-law than my sister. He was both uncle and father to my two nieces and two nephews as well as being a great friend to both Joe and me.
We both just celebrated our 50th year and we will always remember him.

I was fortunate to know Monsignor for about fifty years and see his happiness just last June at his 50th anniversary celebration at St Hilary's in Tiburon. His was a unique presence and his wit, intelligence, devotion to family, upholding of tradition, caring for those less fortunate were quite evident. When he was at St Patrick's on Mission Street( not the good neighborhood it is today) and a man came in the entry pointing a gun at him. Monsignor stated, ' Drop the gun-there is a policeman behind you' and resolved the incident peacefully. So many great memories and stories will remain with me and I felt honored to be a friend.

Rest in Peace, Msgr. You were a good friend to many youngsters including my son Gabriel Newman who took many trips with you and the Young Astronauts. You made a "BIG" impression on him that has lasted all these years. You will be missed by many. God rest your soul.

My dearest Uncle. I know that you know how I feel right now. I am torn between my unmeasureable love for you and the impending arrival of your new great niece or nephew. Living on the other side of the planet from you has always been hard, because you have been like a father to me and a grandfather to Jonathan & Fredrik. You have done so much good for so many people. In my life and my family's life, you will always shine as a symbol of love. Love for Life, Love for Family & Love for God. We, Victoria, myself, Jonathan, Fredrik & Baby-to-be will honor you on Friday here in Stockholm. I cannot tell you how much it pains me to not be present when all your wonderful family, friends and colleagues will honor your memory at Star of the Sea. We are busy making the family that you love so much bigger. Fare well, my beloved Uncle Charlie. Michael
