Charles Mohn Obituary

Charles R. Mohn

June 8, 1942-December 17, 2019

Charles R. Mohn D.D.S.

June 8, 1942-December 17, 2019

Charles "Chuck" Mohn was the son of the late Mary Taylor Mohn and Robert H. Mohn (SFFD). Chuck was a native and near lifelong resident of San Francisco and attended Lawton School, Lincoln High, U.C Berkeley (class of '65), and UCSF Dental School.
Chuck married Francine Bestoso of Newport, RI, 51 years ago before deployment as a Lt. J.G. in the U.S. Navy for two years on a Swift boat in Vietnam. Settling in S.F., he attended dental school and began a 44 year dental practice at 450 Sutter with a highly valued loyal staff. The goal of being a dentist was set at a very young age, and he embraced his work with a powerful dedication and developed great affection for over two generations of patients.

Chuck's passion for sailing on the SF Bay started as a teenaged Sea Scout. He was a member of the St. Francis Yacht Club and spent his weekends on racing crews competing in regattas most commonly with his dear friend and mentor, Hank Easom, and crew, on the Yucca.

Chuck was an avid cyclist and outdoors person. His early evening bike rides to the Marin Headlands and his seasonal bike tours of remote roads in California were legend. He made near annual visits to Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite to hike and photograph the mountains he had explored on extended camping and backpacking trips as a boy.

Chuck was a family man and generous host to countless friends and family at festive dinners.
After a long battle with cancer, Chuck succumbed. Friends, family, and extraordinary loving neighbors had rallied. Our irreplaceable Chuck is sorely missed! The family thanks Patricia Bestoso, his sister-in-law, who hurried to his side and guided loved ones to help him reach as peaceful a death as possible.

Chuck is succeeded by his loving wife, two children: son, Gregory Mohn of Hawaii; daughter, Christa Mohn and family: Patrick O'Shea, Cyrus and Ayla O'Shea; his sister, Anna Mohn Gade; his nephew, Robert Gade and family; many Bestoso sisters and brothers in-law and nephews and nieces.

There is no immediate plan for a memorial.

One of my all time favorite human beings. Dr Mohn brought so much joy to my life by his sense of humor and radiant smile. I can´t imagine the loss that you feel! This is a late condolence I´m so so sorry. May he rest on peace!

I think of Dr Mohn (Chuck) often, and still ask how such a profoundly good and vivacious person could be taken so soon. He is, and will be, definitely remembered!

Dr. Mohn was well loved and remembered not only by current patients, but long ago patients. I had to switch dentists when I moved, but made a point of stopping in to visit when passing 450 Sutter. Always kind, clever and caring. Heartbreaking news.

We had a cracking conversation about the new tower and LED lights

Dr. Mohn would entertain me during my visits with all manner of anecdotes. Always made me laugh. I'll treasure the story he told me about my grandfather who was a patient of his as well. Great man.

I started going to Dr. Mohn early on of his Dental practice. He treated me with such kindness and concern of my well being. One time he actually called me at home to check if I was doing okay. I have always remembered that phone call. Rest well my friend.

Dr. Mohn was my trusted dentist and friend for almost 30 years in SF, my adopted city. He was parts kind and funny, with large warm hands and a bigger heart. His practice was filled with friends - every other trip to the chair seemingly rewarded by catching up with old friends waiting too. He was never quick to suggest my bite could be better, but he kept a heavy thumb on my jaw (during inevitable repairs) to remind me that his job was my last resort. The stories he shared about Francine, his sailing days, his Bay area biking, etc. cheered me through 2 divorces, 4 crowns, and several tedious fillings. He was a great guy. Sincere condolences to his close friends and family...

Tribute to Chuck, my Cousin and my DDS. l was there when he started and bought the practice at 450 Sutter St SF.
Chuck was one of the nicest person's l have ever known. Never a bad word against anyone. He told you the truth straight out. He was upbeat and a very funny guy. l loved my dental visits because l was going to have a great time filled with knowledge and laughter. We'd always catch up on our Taylor families and what was up with who.
His generosity to me was phenomenal, l was his last DDS patient out the door. My brother tried to get that appointment. No matter if it was he or l, it was a Taylor member as his last patient.
l've missed our visits. l will love him forever!!! l thank him everyday, brushing the teeth he gave to me.
God Blessed him and everyone that knew him. Especially his family.
Love You Chuck,
Karen Taylor
