Chen Yang Obituary

Chen Yang
March 2, 1982 - January 4, 2024
Chen was born in Beijing in early Spring of '82. It was an extremely cold day when she was brought home from the hospital, and she was shielded by the warm embrace of her parents, which has persisted ever since. Chen spent her childhood and adolescence years without a worry in the world under the care of doting parents and grandparents. She was a child that has the enviable quality of gaining teachers natural affinity, and her school years had an abundance of accolades based on her academic merits.
Above all her studies, Chen was most interested in exploring her innate artistic expressions. She made her own decision to major in architecture in college, which has bloomed into a passion for architectural design for her entire adult life. After completing the March degree from the University of Edinburgh, she came to the United States to turn her passion into a profession by join SB Architects in 2011, and worked among talented architects that turned design dreams into reality.
Chen met Hanqing Liu in college, in the Fall of 2003. They were first introduced over share interest of studying abroad and explore the world. Her presence was like the morning sun, bringing light and warmth to others. Before long, Hanqing fell in love with this girl who has a gentle voice and a smile that can melt one's heart. They navigated a long-distance relationship while she studied and travelled in Europe for two years, and the wedding day on October 1, 2012 was one of the most wonderful events in their lives. They were each other's anchor, and found happiness together as a family here in the Bay Area. And the happiness multiplied when their daughter, Joanne Liu arrived on Christmas day of 2014.
Of all the life's roles, being a mom is the one that Chen is the most proud of. Bringing life to this world takes courage, it also gives us an unparalleled joy and responsibility. Ever since the moment Joanne was born, Chen has devoted her energy and care to safeguard her growth and well-being every step of the way. She wanted the best of everything for her daughter, putting her needs front and center. Even during the hardest of times when battling illness, she found ways to instill values of positive spirit, unyielding courage, and a keenness of appreciation for the beauties in life.
As in Tagore's poem 'let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves', Chen lived a beautiful life with gentleness and vigor, and left this world in peace. She is survived by her husband, Hanqing; daughter, Joanne; father, Qingchun Yang; mother, Shuping Lyu. Her legacy lives on through Joanne. And the memory of her will stay forever with all of us.
