Christine Casey Obituary

Christine Marie Casey

Died peacefully in her home with her family by her side on March 3, 2016 in Mill Valley, California, due to complications from her long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 51.
Christine was born on February 7, 1965 in New York, New York to her parents, William and Marie Casey. Christine graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1987. She married David Gustafson in 1995, and they moved to Mill Valley in 1996 where the family lives with their two children, Grace and Griffin.
Christine had a very special gift for recognizing talented people, which naturally led her to a successful career as an Executive Recruiter. She was responsible for sourcing much of the creative talent at Gap, Inc. for a decade in the 1990's, before running her own Executive Search firm, Christine Casey & Associates, Inc. She ultimately ended her accomplished career at Apple, Inc where she served as a Global Recruiter.
Christine was known for being extremely quick-witted, as well as an incredibly loyal friend. She has been surrounded by a large support system of girlfriends and family members for the past 7 years during her illness, and more steadily in the past several months. As her husband David said: "the outpouring of love and support for Christine has been simply overwhelming, and is a testament to what an incredibly special and beloved person she was."
Christine is survived by her husband David Gustafson and her two children, Grace and Griffin, of Mill Valley, CA; her parents, William and Marie Casey of Redwood City, CA; her brother William Casey (Pam) and their children, Kathleen and Caroline, of San Mateo, CA; her brother Michael Casey of New York, NY; her sister in law, Katharin Gustafson Roth (David) and their children, Stella and Lucas, of Mt. Pleasant, Utah; her brother in law, Peter Gustafson (Kristin Fontana) their children, Katya and Scott, of Ashland, OR; and beloved Jim McPartlin of New York, NY.

A memorial service will take place on March 13 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 3 Oakdale Avenue in Mill Valley, followed by a gathering at the Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club across the street at 1 West Blithedale Avenue. Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Christine's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to: Rugo Breast Cancer Research Fund, In Honor of: Christine Casey, UCSF Foundation, 1600 Divisadero Street, PO Box 1710, San Francisco, CA 94115 (please make checks payable to UCSF Foundation). I will always remember our wild days at Squaw, and fun times around the pool with the kids at the Mill Valley Tennis Club. I even interviewed Chris once for a story. I was in a pinch and she helped me out (and was GREAT!) She was always quick with a smile, and a ton of fun. And so very courageous. Godspeed Christine, you will be missed.

Christine's legacy will live on in so many ways, but most of all through the lives and acts of her two incredible, talented, and wonderful children. We love you Christine and we will miss you. We will continue to surround your children with love, friendship, and support for the coming years and try our best to contribute to the great work you so beautifully started with each of them.
