Cristanne died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Stanford. She was a truly unique person, who lived life with passion in every respect. She was a renowned physician, researcher, educator, and teacher who impacted the lives of innumerable patients, colleagues, trainees, and students. She was the most devoted friend one could ever ask for. She was an amazing spouse, mother, sister, and aunt. Cristanne was born in Holland and never lost her Dutch roots but considered herself a citizen of the world. Her presence in the lives of all those she touched will be sorely missed and never replaced. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 8th at 2:00pm at
Alta Mesa Memorial Park, 695 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto, CA.

Will always remember Christine as a wonderful colleague and good friend

My son was a patient of Dr. Wijman's. Although he had many other doctors during the course of his 25-year illness, she was one of the few who've not only left an indelible memory but also for whom I have a profound gratitude. She didn't treat him long nor exclusively by any means. But she had a way of communicating her interest and her compassion as no other physician did. He felt it; I felt it. His gratitude was mine as well. My son died in January 2012; Dr. Wijman the following year. Both were born in 1965. I'm sure she lives on in the memory of her family and friends just as he did. Neither will be forgotten as long as that memory endures.

I have thought about her now and then since I had the pleasure to spend some time with her. She was my first real teacher in neurology; my senior resident.Whenever I had gone to San Jose, which I don't do that often, I met her; she was very kind to spare a few minutes for me. I just got the news of her passing today. For me, all along, she has been living with full of energy, a bright smile, a warm and friendly soul and heart, and clinical acumen that you envy for. She was a real "good" person. Last time she showed me her home in Santa Clara and the family pictures. She was really happy. I cannot imagine the sadness and pain her family might be going through, especially in this holiday season, when I look at my own feelings. My prayers are for them and for her, my lost friend.

As much as I thought I knew Christine, I am in awe of her numerous accomplishments since we trained together as Neurology Residents 20 years ago. She always told it like it is, typically with a big smile, no matter what the subject. Her unique combination of being Fearless, diligent and compassionate will always remain in my memory. I am very sad and sorry to hear she is gone.

Dr. Wijman was a down-to-earth, compassionate physician who helped us care for our son. I am saddened, on behalf of her family and of the many patients who won't benefit from her wisdom and experience, by her untimely death.

There are no adequate words to express the sadness in Christine's passing. I have a fond memory of her performance with the HyperTonics. Christine was singing the lead of Hotel California and everyone there throughly enjoyed that performance. My sincere and heartfelt sympathies and prayers to her family and friends.
