Claire Harrison Ambjor Obituary

Claire Harrison Ambjor A psychotherapist and, for thirty years prior, a prominent public relations and advertising professional and theatrical producer, died Monday, December 5, at her home in San Francisco, at the age of 77 from cancer. Claire was a pioneer in the public relations field, establishing her own PR and advertising firm, Claire Harrison Associates, in 1967. Her work earned her numerous awards, honors and national recognition. Dr. Harrison was born Claire Blanche Levine in Manhattan on April 18, 1934 to Jack and Arion Levine and raised in Rockville Center, Long Island. She moved to San Francisco after her graduation from Connecticut College and her marriage to David Harrison, an administrative law judge. In addition to her BA, she received an MA from JFK University, and a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from the Center for Psychological Studies. She received her psychoanalytic training at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies and the SF Psychoanalytic Institute, and, beginning in 1994, maintained a private practice as a marriage and family therapist, working out of her home in Ashbury Heights. Claire served on the boards of The San Francisco Chamber Music Society and the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. She leaves her husband Erik Ambjor; son Stephen Harrison and wife Susan Freier, daughter Martha Dehnow and husband Iraj; three grandchildren, Arian, Zachary and Shayda; two step-grandchildren, Rachel and Sarah; a sister, Susan Hallman of Monrovia; stepchildren Larry Reed and Rebecca Rosenberg, and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, William Nadler Levine, and former husband Edward Reed preceded her in death. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ives Quartet, P.O. Claire was an amazing woman and an incredible roll model for her daughter Martha and her son Stephen. I am happy to have known her and wish her family peace during this time of mourning.
