CLARENCE KNIGHT Obituary

Clarence "Clancy" Knight January 15, 1927 - April 27, 2012 Judge Clarence "Clancy" Knight passed away at home on April 27, 2012. Clancy was born on January 15, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Stanford Law School and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1951. Clancy worked for the District Attorney's office in Tulare County and was a staff attorney with the SEC before going to work for the San Mateo District Attorney's office. He briefly suspended his legal career in the early 1960's to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian, appearing with Raymond Burr and Phyllis Diller and performing at the hungry i in San Francisco. Clancy later returned to the practice of law, opening his own practice specializing in criminal defense. He was appointed to bench by Jerry Brown in 1982 and served as both a Municipal and Superior Court judge. Clancy will be remembered for his quick wit, his love of fine food, and his ability to both repair automobiles and make violins. He is survived by his son, Alexander Knight, his daughter, Leslie Knight, and his granddaughter Cheyenne Roberts. Clancy is also survived by his dear friend June Chen, whose kindness towards him will always be remembered. At Clancy's request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Music at Kohl Mansion.

Quite simply, the most collegial, "down to earth" judge I ever worked with. A true gentleman.

Peace to your family and friends.

I will always remember his sense of humor, talent for making violins and his compassion when he helped my son and I through hard times. He even helped me start my own business. A very kind and caring person. I think of him often.
