Died at his home in Oregon on August 21. His wife, Camille, was by his side and his sons Hakan, Kiril and Sorqan were nearby.
While David's body has left us his spirit remains in the creatures he birthed in the FrogWorld - a ceramic universe celebrating and commenting on human nature. It was a FunkWorld born when David was at UC Davis. He believed that the humor of Frog Honeymoons, Bar Mitzvahs and Weddings were a way to capture our attention.
And capture it he did with museums, galleries and collectors seeking out the work which was a marriage of humor, skill and soul.
Take a walk, kiss a frog and remember him with a smile. There will be an exhibition and celebration at Smith Anderson Editions Gallery, 440 Pepper Avenue, Palo Alto in October. Contact the Gallery (650) 328-7762 for details.

You will surely be missed. I wish you had a chance to meet your grandson but I know that you will always be there in stories and in your works.

I was especially saddened to read this as I've spent much of my life surrounded by Gilhooly's ceramics. My mother bought several of his pieces at the Candy Store Art Gallery and they have been a presence in our home for years. His spirit will continue to live trough his art.

Thank you David for your creativity you brought to the world. You are one of my favorite ceramic artists. I love your work that's currently being shown at the Laguna Art Museum. May you rest in Peace.
