David Jackson Obituary

David Misslen Jackson

David Jackson died peacefully at his home on March 22, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born November 6, 1922 in Aberdeen, Idaho to David and Isabel Jackson and had two older sisters, Bernadette and Isabelle. His father was killed in an industrial accident when he was six years old. The family subsequently moved to San Diego in 1930 where David attended elementary school and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1940.
Dave began work in 1940 as an installer for the Western Electric Company in San Diego. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon his honorable discharge in November 1945, he returned to work at Western Electric. While working on a telephone central office installation, he met Evelyn Rischling, a telephone operator for Pacific Bell. They were married on September 20, 1946 and their son David was born in 1951.
Dave worked his way up through the ranks of Western Electric necessitating many moves within California, including the offices in Santa Ana, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. His final position was as the Southern California Area Manager, responsible for all Western Electric operations in Southern California. His signatory moment was being responsible for telecommunications for the 1984 Olympics, held in Los Angeles. Upon his retirement in 1984 with 44 years of service, Evelyn and Dave traveled extensively all over the world. He stayed in touch with all the people he had worked with and enjoyed keeping in touch via email with so many people he knew from all over the state.
Dave cherished his high school days and friendships he made there and continued to provide support to St. Augustine throughout his life. He was a natural born leader, well respected professionally and personally, a strongly principled and ethical man, who lived his life with integrity. Many will miss his delightful sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye. A staunch Catholic, he was very charitable and generous to those less fortunate. He was a great father, a wonderful grandfather, and served as a true role model to his family, friends, and business associates. Dave was an avid golfer and a passionate and devoted Notre Dame football fan.
Dave and Evelyn moved to Millbrae in 2004 to be closer to their son David, his wife Terry and their granddaughter Kelly, making new friends and enjoying life at the Magnolia of Millbrae, especially the poker games.
David is survived by his wife, Evelyn, son David, daughter-in-law Terry, granddaughter Kelly and nieces and nephews, Madeline Palmer, Jeanne Weller, Donna and Dick Jackson, Susan and Tom Juricek, Steve and Jenny Rischling and Van Rischling.
Services were privately held. Donations may be made to the St. Dunstan's Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1133 Broadway, Millbrae, CA 94030.
