David Sahagun Obituary

David Sahagun
07/31/1952 - 02/09/2025
Devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend to so many, David Martin Sahagun passed away February 9, 2025.
Born on July 31, 1952, in San Francisco, Dave was lovingly raised by his parents, Salvador and Inez Sahagun, with the instrumental support of his grandparents, Silverio and Vicenta Villegas. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Lynn; siblings Diana Perez (Leon), Patrick (Janet), Camila Pizzala (David), and Regina Fogarty (Cliff, preceded); sister-in-law Anne McDonough; two loving children Christina (Dave O'Shea) and Matthew (Brindha Bavan); three beautiful granddaughters, Valentina, Sonia, and Liliana; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A lifelong San Franciscan, Dave graduated from St. Teresa School, Archbishop Riordan High School, University of San Francisco, and Golden Gate University, where he earned his MBA. He remained actively involved with his alma maters, keeping close ties with fellow graduates and frequently attending alumni events.
Dave started his career with Chevron USA in the retail marketing and training divisions before launching his own business. He established Castro Street Chevron in 1979, later opening stations in Westlake and Pacific Heights. He proudly belonged to numerous organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, the Merchants of Upper Market, the Friar's Club, the Small Business Commission, and many others.
Despite his many professional endeavors, Dave always prioritized family and friends. He loved dining out with Lynn, traveling around the globe, coaching his children's sports teams, cheering on the Giants, and playing with his adoring granddaughters - always with an infectious laugh and rarely without a hot cup of coffee in hand.
Friends and family are invited to attend Dave's Vigil Service on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:45 p.m. and Memorial Mass on Thursday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. Both will be held at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Ave., San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Archbishop Riordan High School.

Dear Lynn, Matt and Christina,
Our hearts just break for you all. Each one of us was able to enjoy Dave's kindness and generosity of spirit which he shared with everyone he met. Beth and Christina were in the same class and Matt and Maureen were in the same class and we had so many good times together. He truly was a special man--not many people take the time to show they truly care about what is going on in your life. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. While we are all grieving on earth, the Angels are joyously singing, welcoming him home. May God bless Dave, his family and friends. With love from

I remembered an old story this morning.
We were all at the Giants game when we were kids in the 90's & we were losing (I believe to the Padres) 7-1 in the 5th. Dave said the game was over, let's go play strikeouts at the Red Monster. So we got in the car & went - I think Joe, Pat, Matt & I were there with Dave. And we were having a great game of strikeouts, it was a perfect day. Just then, someone told us the Giants were coming back & we ended up winning 8-7. We couldn't believe it.
But I know, in my heart of hearts, I loved playing strikeouts more with the guys than anything else, & I was glad I was there. And for all the times Dave took Matt & I out & played.

The Sahagun Family were my 2nd family during my youth and beyond. They are the most wonderful family (Sal & Inez were the best) that anyone could ever meet and know. I loved Dave and his brother, Pat, and treated them like my own brothers. Diana, Camila, Gina and their kids are all fantastic people. I have been fortunate to have met Lynn and fortunate to have attended their wedding and then the births of Christina and Matthew. I can´t describe the loss of Dave and the impact he had on my life and the lives of so many.

I´m sadden to hear of the news of Dave´s passing. I was a Riordan high school classmate of his(`71). Every time I was in Dave´s presence I was welcomed by his infectious smile, engaging personality and warm greeting. He had a way of making everyone feel special. We enjoyed playing tennis together...he had mean serve! His loss is immense. Heaven truly gained a special soul. My condolences to his wife, Lynne, his children and grandchildren. Godspeed my friend.

I want to say again that through the years, everyone, and I mean everyone, thought the world of Dave. Just a great guy. Warm, positive, engaging, and steady - attributes to which we all aspire and few possess. He will be greatly, greatly missed.

Dave was a very fine gentleman. Went to Riordan HS with him and shared many classes. Recently shared a table with him at our 50th reunion and bocce ball last Oct. in SSF. Really enjoyed his company and we shared quite a few stories. Gone too soon. It was a pleasure to have crossed paths. My sincerest condolences to the family.

Dave was one of the kindest men I have ever represented as an attorney. He was blessed with a gentle demeanor and gracious humor. There was nothing Dave would not do to help a friend or colleague. It was an honor to know and work with him. He left us far too soon.

Dave is one on the people that adds to joy to this planet. From everyone that knew him and the people that I know will miss even the small moments that we got to talk with him. I was lucky enough to know Dave since our days at Riordan. NEVER ONCE in the years I´ve known Dave did I ever see him without that infectious smile on his face. And every time you spent even a brief moment with Dave, you came away feeling better about life in general. BUT NEVER should you have EVER challenged Dave on a tennis court. He was lethal. We´ll miss you Dave. Guess Heaven just couldn´t wait to call you home.

Dear Sahagun Family, So sorry for the untimely loss of a great family man and friend. Dave was truly a kind and generous individual. He was always there to lend a hand a give advice to all. He had a great personality with an infectious giggle. I have known Dave since first grade at St Teresa´s School on Potrero Hill, and again at USF. We have enjoyed many good times together as a family, here and in Italy. Our deepest sympathies for Lynnie, Chrisy, Matt and families. He will be missed by all whose life he touched. I just heard and read of this very sad news. The world has lost one of the kindest most authentic individuals I have ever met.
I met David probably 30 years ago through his Sister Camila. He welcomed me like family to their family celebration, which I will never forget. Everyone was family to David, as that's who he was.
My deepest sympathies to his family.
I offer Prayers and light to his family and all who had the absolute pleasure of knowing David. As we all try to process his passing.
Look skyward as this is where you will find David, always smiling, always laughing and always with that "signature cup of coffee".
You David, will be deeply missed but Never Forgotten.
