David Warkentin Obituary

David Kent Warkentin It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Kent Warkentin. David was born in Atherton, California on August 20, 1951. He passed away on September 9, 2010 at his home in Nicasio, California with his closest friends and partner Vajra at his side. David was loved by the many people he had touched in his life; particularly though his work as a world renowned Homeopath. He was the visionary creator of the homeopathic software package MacRepertory and ReferenceWorks through his company Kent Homeopathic Associates (KHA); which has inspired a revolution in modern homeopathic thinking and practice. David taught at nearly every homeopathic school in the United States and numerous schools around the world, as well as serving on the boards of several homeopathic organizations. David was the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Henry N. Williams Professional Service Award from the National Center of Homeopathy in recognition for his years of service, teaching and dedication to the homeopathic community. He attended the University of California at Berkeley and majored in electrical engineering and computer science. He also had a Physician's Assistant license from the University of California at Davis Medical School, an honorary doctoral degree from The British Institute of Homoeopathy U.K., and CCH Certification from the Council on Homeopathic Certification. He maintained a private homeopathy practice in Marin County, CA from 1976 to 1995, was co-founder of the Hahnemann Medical Clinic in Berkeley, CA, where he practiced from 1985 to 1989 and then founded KHA in 1989. David was an adventurer and nature lover. He participated in over 500 trips as a white water rafting guide; including 10 times down the Grand Canyon in Colorado. His love of photography was demonstrated by works he had exhibited at the Oakland Museum in California and in the US Library of Congress. He loved poetry; especially the works of Rumi and Mary Oliver. He often sent their poems to friends' at the most opportune moment as his way of reaching out to those he loved and wanted to support. Some years ago he had the profound honor of having a private audience with the Dali Lama in India. It is very difficult for those who lives David touched to imagine a world without him. He was like a gentle giant whose sweet smile and wonderful nature illuminated like a great beacon to so many who had the blessing to have known and loved him. David's body was cremated at Cypress Hill Memorial Park in Petaluma, California on September 14th. A memorial service is planned for early October.

I remember the first time I met David. I was in my early 20s and had just moved across the country to California. I interviewed to work at KHA. It was 1996 and it was the most unusual and wonderful job interview of my life. I cried. David was so touching and enchanting and lovely. During my years at KHA I was enchanted by David's wisdom and creativity. It was the simple things that brought him so much joy. I am better for having known David and know that he has touched the lives of so many homeopaths around the world. David created community and his community will miss him dearly. Rest well old friend and thank you for your friendship.
