DAVID WILLINGHAM Obituary

David Lee Willingham August 1938 - June 7, 2012 A man of integrity and wisdom, David was not restricted by ordinary boundaries. He inspired those around him to achieve beyond their own expectations. A Clinical Social Worker, David began his career in crisis intervention at the USC Medical Center. He was a pioneer in the development of community mental health. His warmth, depth of knowledge, objectivity and unique perspectives were experienced by the most fortunate among us. As a consultant and counselor, David volunteered 24 years with Kara, an agency dedicated to helping people in their journey through grief. Becoming an accomplished triathlete later in life, his joy inspired others. David was a painter, an author, a voracious reader and a legendary storyteller with an extraordinary sense of humor. David and his wife Joan shared a great love and a profound partnership, working and exploring the world together. For the past two decades they have worked side by side in their private practices counseling individuals and families. As a proud father, David shared his love of life with his three children, six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. David passed away unexpectedly from a complication of prostate cancer. His contributions have shaped the lives of thousands and he will be sorely missed.
