Dominic Fama

Feb 23, 1923 - May 25, 2015

Dominic (Mim) Fama, born February 23, 1923 in San Francisco's Glen Park to Santi and Guiseppina Fama of Allume and Roccalumera Sicily. Passed into rest May 25, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. He attended Fairmount School and Balboa High School in San Francisco. During WWII her served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed at a weather station in Greenland. Mim met the love of his life, Peg, at a St Patrick's Day dance at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. They married in 1947. He was a butcher and owner of Mim's Market in San Francisco. After he closed the market he worked for the US Post Office on the Highway Post Office and the mail trains that ran from Oakland CA to Lovelock Nevada. He retired from the Post Office and became a Realtor. He sold Real Estate for over 50 years. He was a member of the Redwood City and San Mateo County Board of Realtors.He enjoyed playing golf and participated in many tournaments. He was active in St Pius Church and is a Past President of the St Pius Men's Club. He cooked for many church events including the annual festival where he prepared the chicken dinner. He ran the Church Bingo program for many years. He was a member of the Italian-American Social Club in Menlo Park, the Amici Club, Redwood City Elks Club #1991, Native Sons of the Golden West and the Peninsula Realtors Golf Association (PREGA). He is survived by his wife of 68 years Margaret (Peg) Fama, nee Conway, his brother Dale Fama of Reno Nevada, his children Larry (Linda) Fama of La Honda CA, Margaret (Russell) Gustafson of Redwood City CA, Gene Fama of Martinez CA, Laurie (Terry) Powers of Redwood City CA and Patrica (Joe Fava) Fama of Redwood City CA. His Grandchildren Marcello Fama, Dominic Fama, Rossanna Hennessey, Russell Gustafson III, Katie Silver, Sharon Mitchell, Gina Fama, Taryn Powers, Ryan Roller, William Roller, Jamie Fava and Joey Fava. His Great Grandchildren Anna, Abigail, Alivia and Afton Hennessey, Byndin and Jayce Silver, Hunter and Molly Mitchell and Rylen Cobb. His cousins Elmo Fama of Santa Rosa, Carmello (Paula) Totaro of Busto Arsizio Varese Italy, Adele Maita of Mt View Ca and Francesca Santos of Manteca CA. Many other loving cousins. Family thanks his loving caregivers Lavinia (Nia) Tonga and Fisihone (Hone) Motuapuaka. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Pius Church 1100 Woodside Road Redwood City Tuesday, June 2 at 10:30 AM. Donations in his name can be made to St Pius Endowment Fund.

To the Fama Family:

I was saddened to hear of Dom's passing. He was an iconic figure in the St. Pius Community. he was great man and it was always a pleasure to be with The Fama Family at St. Pius events.. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Art Sullivan finally has some one to cook for him in heaven! I regret not be able to attend his Life's celebration, but please know The Sullivan's are thinking of you.
