Donald Travers Obituary

Donald E. Travers 1918-2011 Longtime Marin resident Donald Travers, 93, passed away July 7. Born May 18, 1918 in Alameda, he attended Galileo High and Hopland High, played sports at Cal, and served as a Naval officer in WWII. Travers coached track at Lowell and Balboa High School (1950s) and is a member of the Balboa Hall of Fame. He also managed Redwood's Italian Athletic Club Joe Di Maggio League summer teams (1974-76), leading them to the state tournament. They formed the nucleus of Redwood's 1977 national champions. A graduate of USF Law School, Travers practiced law in the City (1962-81) and in Marin (1982-2010), and was a professor at CCSF (1962-77). He was also San Mateo County campaign chairman for Richard Nixon (1960). Travers is survived by his wife, Ingeborg; sons Donald II and Steven; four granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. A private memorial is scheduled for July 16. His remains are handled by the Trident Society. All inquiries can be directed to Steven Travers at (415) 456-6898 or by email at [email protected]
