Doro Gurule Obituary

Doro Gurule Doro (Papa) patriarch of the Gurule family (94) passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Doro was born in Trinidad, Co. on June 27, 1917. He persevered as a young man in difficult times both serving in the CCC's and working in unfavorable conditions in the Coal Mines of Colorado. After being recognized for his work ethic, he was sponsored to attend the Colorado School of Mines where he learned the science of explosives used in the mining industry. While working in Colorado he met Dalena (Morgan) and they later married 1939. Doro and Dalena had five children together. After the birth of their first child (Samuel) they decided to make the move to California for a better life. Doro later learned the art and trade of welding and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area into the late 1970's. He was known for his love of almost all sports, especially baseball. He was a devout Giants fan and was elated to be able to witness their World Series win. He even played competitive softball into his late 70's and was known as "The Human Vacuum Cleaner" by his teammates for his prowess at 3rd base. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved music, gardening, playing his keyboard, and doing jigsaw puzzles. And was known for his wittiness and sense of humor. He loved his family and was an integral part of the lives of both his grandchildren and great grandchildren. I remember Mr. Gurule and his green Chevrolet driving onto the infield of the old park to smooth out the infield so we could play baseball. Mr. & Mrs. Gurule loved all of the kids at the park. They were good people.

When I was a small child I lived around the corner from Doro and Delena Gurule on 30th Street in San Francisco. This family took care of my brother and myself afterschool each day. I remember dancing with Connie, Bernadette and Tunny (Tunafish) upstairs on their 2nd floor. Also doing dedications over the radio. The Gurule's were like my second family growing up, they have always held a special place in my heart. My condolences to all. Suzie Rouspil
