Ed Russell Obituary

Ed Russell

The world is a disproportionately smaller place now. Ed Russell passed away on December 6, 2018 at the age of 74. A native San Franciscan and proud graduate of the "old" Lowell High School, he lived his life with intensity, curiosity and passion.

He was highly regarded as an art dealer and collector. He garnered a reputation for enjoying a spirited argument with an opinion on…EVERYTHING. Ed was as much an experience as he was a man.

He savored the simple pleasures of friends and family, always willing to share his love for art, travel, cooking and ethnic foods, motorsport and dogs. His sheer joy of the discovery was infectious.

Ed, aka "Pinky, " lived and loved with all his heart. He will be missed by his daughters, granddaughters, siblings, partner and many dear friends and animals.

A celebration will be held on Feb 24, 2019 at Fernwood, Mill Valley 11:00 AM. Donations in Ed's memory can be made to Marin Humane Society or Rocket Rescue S.F.

I am saddened to hear of Ed´s passing. I was trying to find him to let him know that my wife, Deanna and I are celebrating 25 years of marriage today. Ed and Candy opened up their home for us in Fairfax and we had a Spectacular wedding in their backyard 25 years ago today Oct. 11 1998. I lived across the street from Ed for many years and we became quite friendly.
Take good care up there, Ed. I know you´re enjoying the finer heavenly things in the spirit world. You had a big heart and lived a big beautiful life.

Well said and All True!
As a young Artist, I was represented at Ed at his Graystone Art gallery some 40 years ago...
and THAT was Only the Beginning of a great Journey with a good friend that put up with my weekly visits for us to rock it in the City. As my mentor in the Arts, Food, mountain bikes, sailing, and his "locals " perspective of how to get the most out of "the City" I grew culturally.
This was in Spite of Our Favorite interests in Argument about so many most interesting things (like why buy an old Mercedes Diesel when you like speed!). Sailing with friends that just happened to be the most important Art Dealers in San Francisco on opening day on the Bay was a once in a lifetime experience. Going to Thiebaud's exhibit opening and buying together with Ed Wayne's Lolly Pop print together and having it grow in value so rapidly due to Ed's knowledge was another of the many great times. His all consuming cheerful & childlike encyclopedic knowledge was never passed on to make one feel inferior as he loved educating/ sharing. Ed played a big part in my life and I'm proud to have all the stories to proudly share. I only wish that our lives had worked in ways that would have permitted for more visits later in my Life.

I knew Ed from his gallery and we became friendly, discussing art and motorcycles, and meeting up at a Christie's auction in NY; my wife and I later had him over to appraise a collection I was donating. He had an infectious laugh, was seriously knowledgeable about art, and was one of the nicest people in the art world I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Condolences to his family and all close to him.

As an art dealer and Ed's friend I would like to express my feelings of sadness and loss of this wonderful man. Ed was always very full of life, energy and excitement. Such a unique and kind human being.

My warmest condolences to all Ed's family.

As a fellow Lowell High School Graduate I must say Ed was a true character. As a giant life lesson for me Ed gave me a tour of where he worked for awhile--The south of San Francisco
