Edward Pringle Obituary

Edward Ogilvie Pringle, Jr.

July 23, 1922 - March 6, 2015

Edward Ogilvie Pringle, Jr., 92, a native San Franciscan, gently passed away Friday, March 6, 2015, in Santa Rosa, California.

He is survived by his four children, Scott E. Pringle, Kevin R. Pringle, Nancy A. Shirley and Robin G. Preader, their spouses, and his grandchildren Aaron, David, and Zachary Pringle, Sean, Dean, and Allyson Preader, seven great grandchildren, his nieces and nephews, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Alice Baier Pringle, who passed away in 2013.

Edward (called "Og" by his family) was born on July 23, 1922 in San Francisco, to Edward O. Pringle, Sr. and Barbara Bent Pringle. He attended Lowell High School (graduating in 1941), and was a participating member of the Crew team there for three years. Growing up in the Presidio Heights area, Edward, his sister Joyce, and their parents watched the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, and walked its length on opening day, May 27, 1937.

From June 1942 to February 1946, Edward served in the U.S. Merchant Marine Service. He served his country on a variety of ships, delivering oil and cargo around the globe for the Allied war effort. Shipping out from San Francisco Bay, he sailed outbound and inbound under the "Gate" frequently.

On August 15, 1945, VJ Day, Edward met Alice Mae Baier. They were married on June 21, 1947 in San Francisco, and remained together their whole lives. Edward was an insurance underwriter throughout his career, working on Montgomery Street in the City, and in later years, in San Jose. Edward and Alice provided a loving home for their four children, and were deeply involved with church and activities with their family. Edward loved to play tennis and ping-pong, and became exceptionally good at both.

The family wishes to thank the staff and other friends at Spring Lake Village in Santa Rosa who provided loving care and support to both Edward and Alice in the years they resided there.

Edward Ogilvie Pringle will be deeply missed by his children and extended family. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held in the early summer. His ashes will be scattered at sea, along with those of Alice Baier Pringle.
