Elizabeth O'Connor Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Mary O'Connor

Passed away peacefully on March 15, 2016, at the age of 78. Beloved wife of the late Thomas O'Connor, loving mother of Ellen (Bill) Teahan and Dymphna (Leo) McFadden. Adoring grandma to Ryan, Liam and Katie.

Betty was born September 27, 1937 in County Kerry Ireland. Her parents were Mai and Patrick Casey, and she was one of seven children (Christina, Margaret, Francis, Phil, Sheila and Anne).

Betty was sponsored by her late uncle, Monsignor James Casey, who brought her out West to Shasta in Northern California. Not long after, her beau from the old country came following, and Monsignor Casey married them. Tom and Betty settled in San Francisco.

Betty was proud to become a US Citizen, and she graduated from San Francisco State. She taught at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help School for over 30 years where she spent some of her happiest days in her parish. A proud Kerry woman, she was always ready to help out at the local feis, parade or party with her creativity and talents for sewing, embroidering and crocheting. She was well known for her annual Christmas Eve open house that went on into the wee hours. She was also a licensed beautician who always opened her kitchen to do all of her neighbor's haircuts and latest styles. We will all miss her warm country smile and fun-loving nature.

Friends may visit Sunday, March 20, 2016, from 3pm to 9pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City, CA, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 21, 2016, at 10:30am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 60 Wellington Ave, Daly City, CA. Reception to follow.

Dear Ellen and Dymphna,
I just learned, this evening, of your Mother's passing. I will always remember her kindnesses to me and to all who knew her. She and your father are vivid in my memories from the years at OLPH. I can picture both of you as young girls in the school halls. She was so proud of you.
The best to you and your families during this difficult time.
Love,
Maria Rogers

Dear Ellen and Dymphna,
I just heard this evening about your mom's passing. I am so sorry. Your mom was as warm and loving as a person could possibly be. I have wonderful, fun memories of sitting in her kitchen, drinking sherry and dying my hair...all after a day of teaching. She made my days at OLPH such happy memories. I know she is smiling down on you both and the many whose hearts she touched. God bless you and your families.
Love, Linda Parini

Dear Dymphna, Ellen family,
I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was a beautiful, lovely lady and was always so proud of her wonderful daughters. I have fond memories of her, especially at the McFadden's. Betty was always filled with life and the joy of living.
I'm so sorry I cannot attend her service.
God bless you all,
Dorothy Walsh and family

Dear Dymphna, Ellen, Leo, Ryan, Liam, Katie, and Bill,

I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother and Grandma. I count myself as truly fortunate to be a part of Betty's extended family. I will remember Betty with great affection through the memories of the holidays and other celebrations that our families spent together. She was a beautiful, intelligent, caring and wise Irish woman who held her family so close to her heart. I know she is looking down at you today with Tom and that they are having a wonderful reunion in Heaven.
May God bless you all during this time.
With love,
Kathy Grogan
