ELMER SMITH Obituary



Elmer Whitley Smith
Passed away on November 13, 2012 in San Francisco, California. He was born in Seymour, Texas on November 21, 1925 to Willie W. & Juanita Smith.
Elmer was the loving and caring husband to Leah Smith for 35 years. He is survived by his two daughters and spouses: Patricia & William Throne and Mary & Lee Shaw; and 5 grandchildren and spouses: Julie Throne, John & Tammi Throne, Jon & Heather Shaw, David Shaw, and Jamie Shaw; and 5 Great-grandchildren: Matthew and Hailey Throne; Brooke, Kaden, and Sarah Shaw.
Elmer graduated from Seymour High School in Texas in 1942. After serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, he relocated to San Francisco where he worked in the meat industry for the remainder of his life. He went into business for himself opening Smith Meat Company in 1965. Elmer was an active charter member of Valley Baptist Church since 1956 where he served as chairman of the deacons, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. Elmer was a man of strong faith and dedicated to his Lord, family, and work.
A Memorial Service will be held at Dolores Park Church on Sunday, November 25 at 1:30 pm. (455 Dolores St., San Francisco, CA 94110).

Elmer will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His faithfulness to God, family and his livelihood was an inspiration and example. I love that he and Leah suggested donations be made to the Gideons because the Word of God remains forever when all else fades and withers.
