Emmy Dere Obituary

Emmy Dere
07/18/1925 - 07/19/2025
Born in DongShengLi, Kaiping China, Emmy Dere graduated from Kaiping High School. In 1947 she married her husband, Kai Gay Dere and moved to San Francisco. After studying English and attending vocational school, Emmy became a certified IBM Keypunch Operator, retiring from PG&E after 21 years.
Family was most important to Emmy. When asked what she wanted for birthdays or Christmas, she always responded the only thing she wanted was have her family together.
In her late 80's, Emmy moved to Aegis Gardens in Fremont, Calif., and found a new life for herself. She kept a busy schedule - going to most of the daily exercise and craft activities, socializing in the dining room with friends, and visiting with various members of her family almost daily.
Emmy passed away on July 19, 2025 - one day after celebrating her 100th birthday with her beloved family. She is survived by her children William (Sue), Franklin (Karen), Jean, Benton (Jenny), and Gordon; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at Green Street Mortuary, 649 Green Street, San Francisco, Calif., Sunday August 24 at 12:30 p.m.
