Eric Bayer Obituary

Eric Kenneth Bayer On January 2, 2010, Eric Kenneth Bayer passed away. Born June 3, 1975 in Norwalk, Connecticut, Eric was halfway through his 34th year at the time of his death. A former east coast dweller, Eric spent many formative years in Maui, eventually choosing to make San Francisco his home. Eric was called to be of service to others. In the short time he lived in San Francisco, he reached out to and helped hundreds of people from all walks of life. The home he made on Fair Avenue became a community of artists, cooks, healers and musicians; many who credit him with enriching their lives and their spirit. In his work, Eric was moved to create programs that helped people help themselves. Closest to his heart were P.O.W.E.R. (Peer Outreach Workers Exemplifying Recovery) and Food for Thought. He was a graduate of New College, in San Francisco, and worked with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, CATS, Homeless Outreach Team. He is missed by many people including his parents Harvey & Judy Bayer, his sister Lisa Bayer and his partner Ashley Kish. A memorial gathering of friends will be held at Dolores Park Church, 455 Dolores Street, Tuesday, January 5th at 1PM In lieu of donations or flowers, the family is requesting that we begin Eric's vision of the Web of Kindness by offering time and assistance to someone in need.

Eric, what can I say I miss you. I miss your warmth, your touch, your great smile, your corny jokes, your patience and enthusiasm with Willow. I miss hearing how you think of things and I miss your counterpoint to my way of thinking. Thanks for all of it!! your partners in feet & food, Jane and Willow

Eric was the real thing. He embodied loving kindness; he made it look easy. He talked about starting a "web of kindness," consisting of acts like reading a story or fluffing a pillow for someone in pain. How can we do it? Should there be a "web" site for people to post available times?

Eric, you were my best friend when we were growing up in Pittsburgh. I'm glad we had a chance to catch up and talk a few times over the past few years, but I'm sad that we will not have a chance to reconnect in person, like we had planned. You were a great person, and you taught me so much. I'll miss you, though I know that you must be in a good place right now. Check in on me from up above, every now and then. My condolences to your parents Judy and Harvey, and your sister Lisa.

Eric was my second cousin, and I only had the chance to meet him once at his grandmother Flo's funeral. I remember his friendly nature, and feeling like I couldn't believe this was my FAMILY member but I didn't know anything about him. I won't express regret, but rather conviction that his death will serve as a reminder to connect with family. Rest in peace, Eric, and may your memory serve as a blessing and comfort to your parents, sister and partner. Love, your cousin, Mara

Eric- we only met once but, boy, was it memorable. I feel so lucky to have shared a few hours with you and your friends in the house on Fair Ave this past summer. We (you, mainly) whipped up that great meal so unexpectedly while we laughed and laughed in the big kitchen, talked story in the front room, made some music, and all sat in the front yard staring at the stars, talking about nothing and everything (when I realized it was a regular occurrence for friends of all kinds to just drop by to see if you were around). We discovered we grew up only a few towns apart, ditched it for Maui, ending up in City by the Bay. Small world. I will always remember that great big grin and gentle, soothing voice of yours. Aloha - a hui ho.

I am still in shock to know that you are gone.

Eric made a huge impact in my life as he did for many others. In my short stay on Maui, Eric became a loyal and inspirational friend very quickly. He displayed generosity, love, peace and hope to all that crossed his path. I will never forget him. Shine on Eric.

Eric, I was heartbroken when I heard of your passing. I've known you since you lived with Heidi, Erica and Josh on Maui. You are such an inspiration to Erica. Thanks for the crazy dinners I got to be a part of. You were one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

Eric, today we are all Eric Bayers because he showed us by his living example of how to love each other unconditionally. He refused to say no to anyone in need. He is alive in our hearts now and we must follow his example of how to treat each other with love, kindness, compassion, dignity and respect. We (our homeless) trusted him and we are sorry we burdened him with our pain from many years of abuse and mistreatment by people and family we trusted. He took our pains upon his shoulder and maybe, since he is such an innocent soul, he could not bear our pain any longer. WE LOVE YOU ERIC !

Your Friend. Thank you for saving my life, Sir! I am in your debt and vow to carry on the way in which you have shown us. Unconditional love for all without judgement. May we be half the loving soul that you are. We were blessed by your parents who brought you into this world to lead us to our salvation, literally.

Eric saves lives which is the best act of love one can share with another. Let us all act like Eric, every day in every way.
