Ernest Voigt Obituary

Ernest Claus Voigt Passed away on July 1 after a short battle with lung cancer. Born in Oakland on October 31, 1934, Ernie attended elementary and high school in Piedmont and then U.C. Berkeley where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He was a star football and basketball player in high school and was one of "Pappy's Boys" at Cal. Ernie began his investment career as a stockbroker with Schwabacher & Co. In 1973 he co-founded Robert C. Brown & Co., an asset management company which he took public and sold in '89. He then established Orinda Pacific Investment Co. Ernie had a zest for life that drew a wide range of people to him. His many, many friends were his life blood and he would do anything for them. Ernie loved food and wine and the friendships associated with them. An avid duck hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the San Francisco Flycasting Club as well as the Order of St. Hubertus. His greatest love was the Bohemian Club where he was captain of Roaring Camp and a member of the Old Guard. Ernie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jackie Kerr Voigt; daughters Cathie LaPorta and Linda Coates both of San Francisco; and granddaughters Rachel and Lauren LaPorta. His son Ernie Jr. predeceased him in 1984. The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Rowe for his extraordinary care during Ernie's illness. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 8 at 11am at Santa Maria Church in Orinda. Donations to the U.C. Regents - "Pappy's Boys" Endowment Fund ([email protected]), or to John Muir Health Foundation would be appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear about Ernie's passing. I know that it has been over 20 years now, but I decided to inquire about him ... discovering this obituary. He and my father, Richard Beasley, were the best of friends. I remember my father taking our family to his vacation cabin in Santa Cruz... I can still recall the beautiful scent of pine needles. I believe that my father first met him at the racetrack, Golden Gate Fields or Bay Meadows. The last time that I spoke to him, we talk about investments. He was a fine man and wonderful friend to my late father. Kim Beasley - [email protected]

Jackie
Ernie and I were friends for twenty five years. I was saddened when I heard the news of course and I do wish you and your family consolation. He was a first class man. The Casa Orinda was our meeting place and Petars. The many many people who are saddened at his passing can take heart that we will see his smiling face again in the parrallel universe. I'm sure his spirit is alreasy on the move exploring his new haunts. He'll be waiting I'm sure for all of us. They won't be eating as well at the Bohemian Club. He'll already be friend up there with a bunch of folks.
