Eugene Fahy Obituary

Eugene Fahy

Eugene Patrick Fahy, age 68, passed away at his home in Sebastopol on March 27, 2021. He was born in Ross in 1952, a son of Philip and Gloria Fahy. He is survived by his wife, Lenora Fahy; 2 daughters, Deana (Jeff) Haug, and Heather Fahy; 2 grandsons, Ethan and Andrew Haug; his godson, Dean De La Montanya, siblings, Cathy Thompson, Phil (Linda) Fahy, Leo (Cindie) Fahy, Will (Patty) Fahy, Patrick (Tracy) Fahy, and Gloria Rita Fahy; Mother in law, Patricia Hendricks; sisters in law, Debbi (Ron) Lawson and Sharon (Doug) Fulton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who loved him dearly. Eugene graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo in 1970. He earned his Associate Degree at The College of Marin, and His Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at Sonoma State. He started his 51 year Law Enforcement career as a cadet and dispatcher for San Rafael PD, went through the Police Academy and became a sworn officer for San Rafael PD in 1975. While there, he was a training officer, a member of the SWAT team and he thoroughly enjoyed his time as a motorcycle officer. He then moved to Santa Rosa PD in 1979, where he also enjoyed the motorcycle detail, trained new officers, was valued member of the hostage negotiation team. He served in Santa Rosa uncle 1986, when he was tapped to become Assistant Sheriff of Sonoma County under then sheriff Dick Michaelsen. He then moved to Rohnert Park Police and Fire, where he added firefighter to his resume and again enjoyed training new officers until his retirement. Gene couldn't retire though, so he helped his brother, Will, as a supervisor for Fahy Tree Services, and when offered a position as an inspector with the Marin County District Attorney's office, he jumped on the opportunity and was a conscientious and tireless investigator and team player. Having worked in law enforcement for his entire career, Gene saw the worst that our society had to offer. Rather than harden him, the things he experienced drove him to make the world around him a better place. His easy smile and Irish wit drew people to him, and once he met you, you were a friend for life. He was never happier than when he was helping others. When someone was in need, he was there, offering much needed help and encouragement. Over the years, Gene participated in, and helped organize many charity events, including Rohnert Park Police Association golf tournaments, Santa Rosa Police Association Demolition Derbies and pasta fundraisers with his long time friend, Pasta King Art Ableto. More than anything else, though, Gene's greatest passion was his family, whether it was on vacation or just spending time around the table enjoying a meal. He looked forward to Saturday coffee with the guys, spending Sundays with Heather in San Francisco, Monday night pizza, trips to Minnesota to visit Deana and Jeff and boys and while there, cheering Ethan and Andrew on in their hockey and soccer games, just to name a few. He especially loved being Heather's door dash dad, delivering lunch to her at work on his days off. A visitation will be held from 2pm to 8pm on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. A celebration of Gene's life will be held this summer at his dear friends Frank and Barbara Gonnella's Union Hotel in Occidental. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Eugene Fahy's name to the Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation, 1501 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA. 95401, to support First Responder Trainees. In the words of a good friend, "those who knew Gene well have lost a dear friend and one of the most selfless and caring individuals we will ever meet in our lifetimes." He was well loved and will be greatly missed.

Gino was the best! I had the pleasure of knowing him from whenever he frequent National Sports Distributors in Cotati the 8+ years I worked there. He loved to joke around and get in on the weekly football pool. He was always a very warm and happy person. My heart goes out to his family. Till we meet again Gino!

"Hey, how ya doing."

As if all of that weren't enough, in a rare feat of multi-dexterity Gino once upon a time even worked dispatch shifts at RPDPS. Yes, the man worked on both sides of the mic -- just not during the same shift!

So saddened by the passing of such a wonderful man. Blessed to have known him. My condolences to the entire Fahy family.

Years ago I was grumbling about something department related. I thought he would be upset since it affected him as well. He wasn't. Instead he giggled. He looked at me; and with that Geno smile said, "You got to learn to bend like the willow." I'll never forget that saying; or him!

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Gene's passing. He was a great Police Officer and a better man. He was always thoughtful and had a great sense of humor. I always enjoyed getting Gene's input on things. You are gone way to soon and will be missed greatly. May God Bless the entire Fahy family at this difficult time. Rest In Peace Gene and May God Bless You.

I was a friend of Eugene's father, Phil Fahy and remember the moment Phil sighted Gloria and soon dated. I'm age 90, but was a teenager when that happened. Knew most of the Fahy family.

We only met Gino just a little more than a month ago. We were helping my brother tear down a deck at his home. For three weekends in a row, Gino showed up and worked tirelessly with us. Gino kept us laughing while we worked. In that short time, we got to know him and considered him a friend. We looked forward to spending more time with him and meeting his family after COVID. We were so sad to hear of his passing.

This is a tough one. Always loved Gene, Leo & the Fahy family. I have such fond memories of riding with him as a kid when he was a San Rafael cop, 3L35?, i think. Later working with him & being trained by him at Santa Rosa PD was a great treat/pleasure. A great man! A great role model. I love you, Gene.

The best "uncle" a kid could ever ask for, and a tireless friend to my dad, Brian. I'll truly miss him.
