Flora Oltranti, 79, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully on May 22, 2016 surrounded by family in San Francisco. Born on December 8th, 1936 in Lucca, Italy, to Dino and Anna DiBene, Flora immigrated with her family to San Francisco in 1949 where she attended St. Brigid's Grammar School and Star of the Sea High School. A hard and determined worker, Flora had a successful business career that culminated in the creation of her thriving real estate company that served the Cow Hollow, Marina and North Beach neighborhoods for over 40 years. Her unique and personal style made Flora a neighborhood institution. In 1958, she married Niccolo Oltranti (also from Lucca) and they built a prosperous life together eventually satisfying a life-long dream by purchasing a working vineyard in Sonoma County. Flora loved people, real estate, early morning walks around the neighborhood, flowers and plants, her view of the Golden Gate, the opera, dancing, traveling and those donuts after Sunday morning mass; she had a good eye for finding passed-over treasures at estate sales and could never pass a black jack table or slot machine without taking a shot. She was an especially good cook and enthusiastic eater, loving nothing better than picking a fresh vegetable or two and cooking and sharing it with family and friends. She was the true heart of the Oltranti family, keeping everyone connected with her feisty sense of humor, her particular sense of boundaries, her direct, no-nonsense ways of communicating and her continuing curiosity about and guidance for – solicited or not – all the people around her.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Flora's passing. I met my Aunt Flora many years ago when I was visiting San Francisco with my daughter for the first time. I remember how welcomed she made us feel. We had a lovely dinner at the vineyard with great food and good wine where I'm met my cousins for the very first time. I will always cherish the memory of this meeting.
My deepest sympathy to all my cousins for the loss of their mother and grandmother.

My grandparents came from Lucca. Perhaps we were distant cousins in some way we never knew. May she rest in peace,
and may the Lord bless and comfort her family.
