Frances Nanjo Obituary

Frances Satoko Nanjo
January 11, 1932 - May 24, 2022
Frances Satoko Nanjo (née Nishimura), loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home in Elk Grove, California on May 24, 2022. Frances was born in Japan on January 11, 1932, in Nishinomiya, Hyogo. In 1952, several years after the end of World War II, she came to the U.S. to accompany the family of a diplomat for the Japanese consulate in San Francisco. She went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics in 1961 from San Francisco State University, where she met her husband, Henry Fujio Nanjo. She and Henry raised their children in San Francisco for many happy years while Frances worked at Sumitomo Bank, and eventually moved to the Sacramento area to help raise their grandchildren. They loved to travel, play golf, and spend time with family and friends. Frances truly embraced the American way of life and finally became a U.S. citizen in 2013. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, wry sense of humor, bright smile, and steadfast support of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her children Henry David and Peter, grandchildren H. David, Ashley, Christina, Andrew, and Paige, great-grandchildren Madelyn and Coralyn, and sister Shizue Kohayakawa. Per her wishes, there will be no services. Condolences may be sent to 10186 Atlantis Dr, Elk Grove CA 95624. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to may make a donation to their favorite charity in Frances's name.
