Francis Murphy Obituary

Francis Murphy
08/14/1941 - 04/17/2025
FRANCIS JOSEPH MURPHY (aka GP) passed on April 17, 2025, after a short battle with lung cancer. Frank was born in San Francisco, California, on August 14, 1941. He grew up in the Excelsior/Crocker Amazon district of the City. Frank is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Janet Murphy. He has two daughters , Natalie and Dayna, as well as four grandchildren, Mara, Chase, Janel and Danay. He is also a proud great-grandfather to Natalia and Nicoletta. Frank went to Epiphany Elementary and joined the Epiphany Peanut football team and never left the bench. He went on to graduate from Riordin High School in 1959. He married Carol Borrelli and started a family as well as his career in sheet metal. He was a weekend warrior entering his Triumph motorcycle in numerous local races throughout the Bay Area. He loved cars and auto racing from Nascar to Formula 1. He started his sheet metal career at the age of 17 and went on to establish his own company Murphy Sheet Metal. His glass skylights can be seen in many countries as well as throughout the United States. He lived the majority of his life in the Bay Area, with a 12 year retirement move to Rancho Mirage in the Palm Springs area. He and his wife returned to San Mateo where they reside today. He was an avid believer in exercise, involving everyone around him to accept that lifestyle. He was a member of Royal Racquet Club and Primetime Athletic Club for 50 years. He travelled the world for business and pleasure, making New York City his favorite place to travel, where they supported the Broadway shows and restaurants as well as spending quality time in Central Park. His friends are too extensive to mention. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him loved him. His loss will be felt for a very long time by many. Our world will not be as fun and full of love by his loss. We will be celebrating and honoring his life on May 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church on Hillside Road in Burlingame. The service will commence at 11:00 a.m. His remains will be laid to rest at St. John's Cemetery in San Mateo. Rest in peace to an outstanding human being, incredible husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.

I started working at Murphy Sheet Metal in 1981 until they closed. The word that describes him best is 'class'. He was a great boss - fair, honest, generous and kind. Truly a man of integrity and he really knew how to dress. Where did he get those ties?

I Have known Frank for over 30 years. He was a friend of a friend and he worked out at Royal where I would see him daily. Always a kind and soft spoken a true gentleman. Frank was proud of his beautiful wife Janet and his girls and grandchildren. I will miss his presence.

Murph and I were friends and partners in MSM. He ran the office while I took care of the field. It was a great fit. When we wound up the company I returned to Ireland and we lost touch with each other. He was an awesome business partner and a good friend. My heart and sympathy goes out to his entire family
