Frank Drago Obituary

Frank E. Drago
June 30, 1928 – December 31, 2021
Frank passed away peacefully on December 31, 2021, at 93 years of age. A native of San Francisco, Frank was the youngest son of John and Florence Drago. He is preceded in death by his parents, older brother Jack (Jackie) and his beloved wife Betty. After graduating from Balboa High School he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He is a much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Frank is survived by his son Jim, son Dave (Barbie), and daughter Donna (Steve); his granddaughters Casey (Steve) Abbey and Danielle, and grandson Travis (Alexandra) Funk; great grandsons Luca Abbey and Roman Funk; sister-in-law Maggie McKenzie; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Frank also loved his second family – the San Francisco Fire Department where he served as a hoseman, Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief over a 39-year career. He was proud to serve the SF community.
He will be remembered for his kind, loving heart, his selflessness, leadership, and his wonderful sense of humor but mostly his devoted love for his wife of 60 years and family.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2021, at Garden Chapel in SSF as well as a service to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2021, at the Italian Cemetery's Main/Center Chapel in Colma.

Just heard the sad news. Frank was one of the most considerate & respectful people I´ve ever had the pleasure & privilege to work with at Station 11. Always well-humored, collected & professional. I´m glad he had a long life, it is what we all aspire to. Condolences to the Drago family.

I met Frank in1975 when I became a member of 25 Engine in Battalion 10. Chief Drago was always respected as one of the "good chiefs" in Batt 10. Additionally, he was loved by all the men he supervised. Professional, fair, and dependable. Words that adequately describe Chief Drago. RIP, Frank.
