Franklin Wong Obituary

Franklin K. Wong

September 16, 1934 - August 1, 2015

It is with deep sadness the family of Franklin K. Wong announces his passing.

Born in Chico, CA. Resident of San Francisco most of his life. Graduated Washington High School, class of 52. All City lightweight basketball 1949 and 1950. Placed 2nd in lightweight shot put in All City Meet 1952.

For some 39 years until his retirement in 2006, Franklin owned and operated Franklin's on 3rd Street. Franklin's bar was almost an extension of his home. Many of his patrons were close friends and to these friends, this was the best bar in the city.

Franklin was loving, warm, friendly, humorous, generous to a fault, a sports trivia wizard and a great dice player.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy; loving daughters Kathy (Paul), Jadine (Bobby), Janet and Carla (Michael). Also survived by son Phillip. Beloved grandfather of Brian (Rhaylynn), Michelle (Jeremy), Ryan, Courtney (Thomas) and Juliana (Hugo) and great grandfather of Caleb, Christian, Natalia and Cassandra.

Also survived by siblings William (Phyllis, dec.), Ruby (Larry, dec.), Thomas (Doris) and Frank (Jane). Predeceased by parents Suey S. Wong and Mo Han Lee and brother Hans (May, dec.).

Franklin is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

These past five months were very special to Franklin. He was visited by many family and friends and loved reminiscing and sharing stories with them. Franklin was a humble person and really did not realize how well liked he was by so many people.

Special thanks to Dr. Amy Lin, UCSF Urologic Oncologist, and her team, who truly cared about Franklin's wellbeing. In addition, his team from Hospice by the Bay were so beneficial in providing much comfort and assistance to Franklin and Tammy. Paulina, his nurse, Alfred, his aide, and Maud, his social worker, were an invaluable support system.

At Franklin's request, no services will be held. There will be a celebration of life at a later date and notification will be sent to family and friends.

Donations in Franklin's name may be made to Hospice by the Bay, 17 East Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, Larkspur, CA 94939.

I worked at 950 Tennessee street in San Francisco, we used to go to lunch at Franklins around the corner on 3rd street for lunch three to four times a week, May was the server for lunch, I became friends with many of the San Francisco police officers at the South East Police Station two doors down, I went to see him a few times at the hospital in San Francisco and bought a few friends who I worked with and knew him well, I got his daughter Carla a job at my company when she was I think 17 years old, met his son Phillip many times, you were a great person to know,

I met Franklin after his retirement. I would always look foward to seeing him again. He was easy to like. He gave me his phone number to let him know of any get together's that we might share. Franklin and his pal Abbie were always together. I will remember Franklin as a friendly, kind, gental man's man. Bill Cotton

I have only a few memories of Franklin but they are all good ones! He and Tammy showed Thomas and I around San Francisco and took us to all the big places to see there. They even let us stay in their home while we were there! Franklin will definitely be missed.

I didn't know my uncle very well. I did know his generosity, and kindness, and I am sad I didn't know him better.

We have so many great memories of Franklin, at the bar and at celebrations in and out of the City. He was smart, warm, quick-witted and genuine. Franklin was such a caring man. He always paid special attention to Matt and made him feel welcome, which we appreciated so much.
Our deepest sympathies Tammy and family.

When stars cross and the heaven opens up to let a love like Tammy and Franklin form, all who are touched by their union have to feel the presence of the moment.
Sounds a little corny and especially if you know me, Tammy's brother Tom. When I first found out that our big sister had found someone and planned on getting married, it was from our sister Patty who was very excited and conveyed that this was someone very special and who treated Tammy very special. All of us kids lived in different states, so it took a little while before I actually meant Franklin and when I did, he was indeed the person I had heard so much about. Kind, gentle and caring, just the person you would want to see brought in to your family. Yes, I do feel we owe Tammy a special thanks for the opportunity to spend time with them and get to know Franklin.
I will miss not having any more memories created with the two of them as a couple, however I will always have the visions and warm feeling from Franklin being part of our family.

I will be thinking about Franklin. I will take time on my birthday to think about him, as we celebrated our birthdays together quite a few times. I have been thinking about our trip to Ireland and the great time we had. We laughed every day.

I will miss our talks about the various sports and the players who may not be doing well at that time, regarded by you as "bums". You are the best man I've had the pleasure of knowing in my life. You will always be in my heart but it's just not the same as when we're having our face to face talks. Love you,
Bobby P.
