Gareth Thomas Obituary
Aug. 9, 1932 - Feb. 6, 2014
Gareth Thomas passed away after a lengthy battle with a form of dementia, at 81. Born in Wales, he finished his studies at Cambridge University. He joined the faculty at UC Berkeley in 1960, where he spent his career as a leader in the field of Material Science and Electron Microscopy. He was elected into both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. After retiring, Gareth lived in France and more recently in Holland.
He was a loving father, grandfather and husband. He is survived by his wife Annelies, his son Julian, his daughter-in-law Kimberly and his two grandchildren.
A family service will be held in Wales in April and a Memorial Service will take place at the UC Berkeley Men's Faculty Club on May 23rd. For more information please see http://gareththomasweb.wordpress.com/gareth/
