George Simon Obituary
February 3, 1929 - March 1, 2024
George Simon of Millbrae, Calif., passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024.
Born in San Francisco to immigrants Helen and Simon (Kirichenko) Simon, George was proud to be a first-generation American. George attended Sequoia High School in Redwood City. After graduation from Sequoia High School, he joined the US Marine Reserves. He enrolled at San Jose State University. In 1950, his Reserve unit was activated and sent to Inchon, Korea, where he served as an amphibian driver. On returning he married Georgelyn MacDonald (Lyn) from Oakland. He graduated from San Jose State and started teaching at Jefferson Union High School District. He taught mechanical drawing and coached cross-country track at Jefferson and Westmoor High School. When Jefferson Union High School district started their Adult School program, George also became a Night School counselor helping students achieve their goal of receiving a GED or Diploma. He retired after 37 years as a counselor in 1991.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Georgelyn (Lyn) Simon.
George will be deeply missed by his four children, Jean Simon (daughter), Ed (son) and Connie Simon, Victor (son) and Suzanne Simon, Janet (daughter) and Dan Kervick; and five grandchildren, Michelle (granddaughter) and Max (grandson), and Jaymie (expecting their first child in July), Natasha (granddaughter), Thomas (grandson) and Donovan (grandson).
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul's Church in Burlingame at a later date.
