Gloria Getty Obituary

Gloria Gordon Getty

Gloria Gordon Getty passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on Dec. 5, 2021 at her home on Russian Hill in San Francisco.

Gee Gee, as she was known by many, lived a fulfilling life that spanned the waning days of the Wild West in Colorado, the glamor and growth of post-war Los Angeles, and the foghorns, Dungeness crab, and sports glory of San Francisco from the '80s to present day.

Gee Gee was born in Denver, Colorado on November 1, 1930, to May and David Grant Gordon, the founder of a heavy construction company that helped build the Hoover Dam, amongst other projects.

Her grandfather, John Gordon, in his early career a station master in Wyoming, became a Colorado state senator.

She lived in Los Angeles from the 1950s to the 70s, and moved to San Francisco in the early 1980s. She was always elegantly attired, and her signature round glasses completed her fashionable look.

Gee Gee loved city life in San Francisco – frequently attending the opera, theater, symphony, lectures, and art exhibitions. She was a faithful Giants fan, supporting the team through many losing years, as well as the glory of three World Series championships. She was a long time season's ticket holder from the days when the team played at Candlestick Park, and she attended Spring Training and most home games, always wearing signature Giants orange.

Gee Gee also loved to dine out in San Francisco and her favorite restaurants included Scoma's, Presidio Social Club, and Momo's.

Gee Gee loved to travel and took many trips abroad throughout her life, including safaris in Africa, cultural tours of Europe, and a round-the-world trip with National Geographic. She said that the country she'd most like to return to was Morocco.

She regularly attended her grandchildren's sports games and school performances. Her home was decorated with countless photos of her beloved family. She loved animals and throughout her life always owned creatively named cats, including Gumps, Angel, and Happy Cat.

Gee Gee had many devoted friends and was herself a wonderful friend. She showed curiosity and interest in all people, and treated everyone – whether a housecleaner or a head of state – with equal respect.

She was predeceased by her partner of many years, Jack Baedeker, who died in 2012. She is survived by her large and loving family.

Mrs, Getty was a very nice lady I worked at her condo sometimes and took some limes from her tree sometimes. She was never proud and I'm pleased to have met her.I'm sure she is now with the angels for she had a good heart,
