I am so sorry to hear of Grant's passing. I worked for Grant at Harbor-UCLA, where Donna also worked, in the 1970s. He was the most compassionate, kind physician I have ever known, and more importantly, Grant was a generous man and a wonderful human being. My condolences, Donna, and to your family.

I just became aware of Grant's passing. I am so sorry. My husband, Dr. Charles Wilson, who died in 2018, was a great friend and admirer of Grant's. They were both graduates of Tulane University. We three worked at the University of California, San Francisco at the same time for many years. Grant was so well thought of and I am sad to learn of his passing.

I just read of the turbulent and productive caring life of Dr. Heishima in the Tulane mailout. I am so sorry to his family for their loss. I am in awe of his optimism and forgiveness to the country of his birth. God speed, Dr. H.

I knew Grant when we were both living in married housing at Tulane University in 1968. We were both at the medical school but in different departments. He was obviously extremely intelligent but what was most impressive was his warmth, compassion and caring. He told me about being born in an internment camp and how his family and relatives suffered during that time. He was especially sad about how an uncle had a jewelry store and contents confiscated and never returned. True to his nature he quietly stated that he understood the panic and reaction at the time and held no animosity toward his country, the USA! He was a lovely man and I am very sorry that he is no longer with us.

I worked with Grant Hieshima at UCSF in the NeuroInterventional Radiology Department. He had been on my mind lately, and now I realize why. He was invariably kind, always thoughtful, brilliant, innovative, and inspirational. Ahui Hou, Grant.
