Gregory Pierce Obituary

Gregory Pierce
07/01/1948 - 06/14/2024
Gregory Dean Pierce, 75, Pacifica resident for the past 7 years, passed away on June 14. He was born on July 1, 1948, in Ross, CA to Betty Cirullo, as the oldest of his three siblings, Beverly Pierce (deceased), Barbara Cirullo and Geoffrey Cirullo.
Greg met the love of his life, Heidi, while serving as a summer camp counselor and bus driver for the Brotherhood Way JCC at Junipero Serra Park. They have been inseparable ever since, building the life and family of their dreams.
Greg said he was put on this Earth to be a father and was he ever; he was devoted to his family, wife of 48 years, Heidi, and daughters, Abra, Murat (husband) and Shoshana. He spent 26 years with the San Francisco Chronicle, waking up each day at 3 AM so he could have the afternoons off for every soccer practice, game, volleyball match, tennis tournament, track meet, and Tae Kwon Do lesson. He worked hard for his family and gave us a life full of activities, new experiences, ice cream, and the responsibility to give back. He loved walks on the beach with his wife, searching for sea glass, traveling to visit his grandchildren, Feivel and Sachiel in the UK, and tapping his toe to live music of any kind from big names to street performers at a local festival.
Also known as Coach Greg or Papa to many, he spent years volunteering with AYSO, CYSA, and for the last 20 years, he's coached Capuchino High School's Men's Soccer team as well as the Badminton team. He has coached and mentored kids in the Bay Area his whole life, leaving an indelible impact on the community. In this spirit he has established two scholarships for Capuchino soccer athletes aspiring to go to college.
As a long time San Bruno resident, Greg was also involved with the San Bruno Rotary Club, the San Bruno Lions, and the San Bruno Parks and Rec Department. He had the opportunity to serve as an Ambassador for San Bruno on a sister-city trip to Narita, Japan, and as a chaperone with Parkside Junior High. He was generous with his time and passionate about the importance of community service, giving back to those less fortunate, and setting the next generation up better than the one before.
Per Greg's wishes, the family have decided on a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Capuchino Sports Boosters - Soccer or Capuchino Sports Boosters -Badminton as both programs were especially close to his heart.
We find comfort in knowing that Greg's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. In his final hours when asked what were some of his favorite moments from his life, he replied without any hesitation, "Everything!"

We lived a few houses down the street from Greg, Heidi and family in San Bruno. Our daughter Tracy played for his Heartbreakers CYSO soccer team. Greg not only understood what was important in coaching kids but also what life was all about. He is gone way too soon but lives on in a legacy that we can cherish.
