Harry Bremond passed away on December 8, 2025, at age 91. Born in Austin, Texas, on September 19, 1934, to Velma White Bremond and Walter Bremond, Sr., he moved as a child to San Francisco, where he grew up in public housing. He graduated from Commerce High School, earned a B.A. and later an M.B.A. from San Francisco State University, served in the U.S. Army, and received his LL.B. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1962 as one of its first Black graduates.
After practicing in East Palo Alto, he joined the firm that became Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in 1967. Over a 44-year career, he practiced commercial litigation and helped shape Silicon Valley's legal community. A pioneer among Black attorneys in the Bay Area, he was instrumental in building the firm's pro bono program and was widely recognized for his dedication to civil rights, justice, mentorship, and uncompromising commitment to the law.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Peggy Woodford Forbes; daughter Candace Bremond; grandchildren; and stepdaughters Maya Forbes and China Forbes and their families. He was predeceased by his daughter Stephanie Bremond, former wife Faye Crawford Bremond, and brother Walter Bremond, Jr.
Known for his warmth, candor, and infectious laugh, Harry loved family, jazz, chamber, music, theater, poker, and athletics including tennis, skiing and cycling with friends. He lived most of his adult life on the Peninsula: Atherton, Menlo Park and 30+ years in Los Altos Hills, California. Recently Harry and Peggy moved to Palo Alto, California where he passed away.
His life was marked by service, generosity, and joy, and he will be deeply missed. A celebration of life was held in February at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco.
