Henry Charles Schaeffer

February 16, 1935 - May 4, 2017

Henry Charles Schaeffer died May 4, 2017. He was born to Ricardo Palomo Schaeffer and Maria Suasnavar Schaeffer on February 16, 1935 at San Francisco Hospital. He attended St. Dominic's Elementary School and graduated Polytechnic High School in 1953. He served in the US Army 1954 and was stationed at the Presidio.

Henry was employed as a Motorized Cable Car driver and tour guide for the past 50 years. Most recently with Hornblower Classic Cable Cars.

He was well known in the Tibetan Buddhist Community including Shambhala Meditation Center of San Francisco and Berkeley Shambhala Center.

Henry was the youngest of four brothers. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Albert and Frank Schaeffer. Survived by brother Richard E. Schaeffer of Sunnyvale, niece Helen (Ronnie) Sanford, niece Elizabeth (Brent) Collins, nephew Richard (Mary) Schaeffer, Jr., nephew John (Brye) Schaeffer and nephew Chris Schaeffer.

He had many close friends and enjoyed being surrogate grandfather to Ileana, Alejandra, Moises, Anahi and Divina; grandchildren of dear friend Donna Peralta of Pleasanton.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral ceremony, memorial and reception for Henry on June 3, 2017, 2-4pm at Shambhala Meditation Center of San Francisco, 1231 Stevenson Street, San Francisco, CA 94103.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Henry's honor to Nalanda Translation Committee, 1619 Edward Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada B3H 3H9.
