Hilary Kitch Memoriam

Hilary Teague Kitch December 25, 1941 - May 24, 2006 She was born on Christmas Day, 1941, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of the famous illustrator, artist and national academician, Donald Teague. She grew up in Carmel, CA, and was a graduate of Carmel High School. She was fond of horses, and had her own pinto pony, Streak. From a family of avid travelers, after graduating from George Washington University, she spent a year in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and eventually was hired as a stewardess ("flight attendants" had not yet been invented) by Trans International Airlines, a job she held for 14 years, eventually becoming a flight attendant supervisor. She flew all international routes, to Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, Greenland and South America. She flew MATS missions into Saigon during the Viet Nam War. She was an excellent dancer, and was trained in classical ballet. She was an actress and comedienne, famous on the Monterey Peninsula. After the birth of her son Bryan, she embarked on a second career, and for 17 years was an administrative assistant and later office manager at the San Francisco Waldorf School. She was beautiful, witty, intelligent, graceful and elegant. She was sui generis. In the theatre, and in her two careers, she brought joy and enrichment to thousands. She lived a worthy life. She seized the day. She met her untimely death with dignity and a stoic reserve.
